When the Shortridge Blue Deévils are hard up for an extra point, young Ed Brown (above) hears his name called. He's the toe artist for Coach Nipper’s North Siders and he’ll be on hand at Butler Bowl Friday when the Blue tackles the powerful Tech in the last battle of the season for both schools.
Ole Miss’ Will Be Foe of Marquette
Times Special MILWAUKEE, Nov. 12 —Boasting one of the strongest teams in Dixie and eyeing this chance to avenge last year’s humiliating setback here, the University of Mississippi Rebels will swing into Milwaukee next Saturday afternoon for an intersectional game with the Marquette University eleven. Coach Ed Walker, one of the country’s ablest exponents of the Warner system, has termed his 1936 Ole Miss’ squad as one of the | strongest in history. He has a wellseasoned, veteran aggregation, with only four men missing from the 1936 squad which was picked ©o represent the South at the Orange Bowl game in Miami, Fla. The Mississippians’ hopes for Southeastern honors were dashed early in the season by a narrow T= 6 defeat by Tulane. Walker's team, which plays 12 games this fall, is well-fortified at all positions, but has exceptional stars in Ray Hapes, flashy carrier; Dave Bernard, allround quarterback; Clarence Hapes, 250-pound fullback; Buster Poole, 225-pound end, and F. M. (Bruiser) Kinard, being mentioned as an allAmerica tackle possibility. Marquette thus far has a twe-to-one edge in its series with the Southerners. The Hilltoppers won here in 1831, 13 to 6, but Ole Miss’ came back for a 7-0 decision in 1932. Last fall, when the feud was resumed, the Golden Avalanche got the jump with a touchdown on the opening play after the kickoff and won handily, 33 to T.
Southern Leaguers Urge Draft Increase
By United Press MEMPHIS, Tenn., Nov. 12.—Southern Association directors who hold their annual meeting here tomorrow will seek an increase in the draft price paid by® the major leagues, it was indicated today. The present draft price for Class A leagues is $6000. The Southern and Texas Leagues, however, last year raised their ratings to A-1, setting up a new classification midway between Class A and AA. The Southern directors were expected to set their figure approximately half-way between $6000 and $7500. Any proposed increase would have to be approved by the National Association of Baseball Clubs, which meet in Montreal in December.
14 BLUE GRIDDERS TO PLAY LAST GAME
Fourteen members of the Shortridge High School varsity football squad will be playing their last game for the North Side school tomorrow when the Blue Devils oppose Tech at Butler Bowl - The following are seniors: Captain Bob Adams, Bill Barr, Bill! Beaning, Bob Brown, John Combs, Dave Crockett, Jack Dawson, Bob Hall, Arthur Hyman, C. W. Lambert, Bill Miller, Maynard Morris, Dick Rehm and Haynes Willis. There will be 11 juniors and 12 sophomores returning next year.
