Rabbits Are

Conservationists Say Game More Plentiful Than Last Year.

Hundreds of Hoosier hunters took to the fields today as the 1936 season opened.

The Hunters are on the lookout for quail, cock pheasants and Hungarian partridge, all of which are legally “on the spot.” The State Conservation Department reports that observations by game wardens and conservation club members show there are more rabbits and fowl in the woods and fields than last year. Birds are more plentiful the department says, because of last winter’s extensive feeding program by conservation club members. Rabbits are more plentiful because last summer was a good propagating season. Rabbits legally are shotgun fodder until Jan. 9. Quail may be shot until Dec. 19. The season on cock pheasants ends Thursday, and the Hungarian partridge deadline is Dec. 19. Since the last hunting season, many thousands of quail and pheasants have been liberated by the Conservation Department.

License Is Required

One may not hunt legally without a license except on his own land, nor may he hunt legally on another's land without permission. The department has asked that extreme care be exercised by hunters in the vicinity of CCC camps and other outdoor work projects, and in all places against possible forest fires. The state law prohibits the sale or offer for sale of pheasants, quail and partridge, but does not prohibit the sale of rabbits, the department pointed out. The ony restriction on rabbits is the daily bag limit of 10, and the provision that “it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to have in his or its possession or to transport more than 20 wild rabbits at any time, whether taken, shot or killed by such person, firm or corporation, or acquired in any other manner.”

HUNTINGTON TO MAKE BANGS CASE DECISION

By United Press __ HUNTINGTON, Ind, Nov. 10.— The City Council is scheduled tonight to make a final decision in the impeachment trial of Mayor Clare W. H. Bangs. Nineteen charges were filed by citizens against the militant Mayor after he continued to operate the city’s “toy” utility plant in defiance

of a Circuit Court order in favor of the Northern Indiana Power Co.

Final arguments in the case were heard Oct. 26. Bangs is serving a sentence in Huntington County jail for refusing to obey the court order.
