President’ Total 909 in Notre Dame Poll; Landon, 207.
Times Special NOTRE DAME, Ind. Oct. 29.— Judging from a straw “vote poll of Notre Dame students, President Roosevelt will win the presidential election by a landslide. In a poll conducted by The Scholastic, weekly news publication, the Democratic nominee carried every one of 35 states represented, The final tabulation gave Roosevelt 909 votes, : Jangcn 207, Lemke 33, and Thomas
Votes were registered from all sections of the cointry, from Maine to Colorado, and from Minnesota to Texas. In Kansas, Gov. Landon’s home state, Mr. Roosevelt won by a slight majority. An article appearing in a recent Scholastic said: “New York furnished one of the largest votes from a single state. In the Empire State, Mr. Roosevelt was more than a two to one favorite. “Indiana indorsed the President nearly three to one, as did Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Illinois Vote Largest “Illinois registered the largest state vote, Mr. Roosevelt receiving the overwhelming support of the group more than five to one. This ratio was one of the highest to be registered with the exception of scattered votes in a few far western states, where Roosevelt was the unanimous choice. ~~ “The solid South gave the Democratic nominee a large majority over his opponent, with Tennessee casting the largest number of votes from this section. Virginia was the only state in the South in which Mr. Roosevelt's margin was slim. A similiar poll, conducted in the fall of 1932, predicted the election of Mr. Roosevelt, The vote then “was Roosevelt, 302; Thomas, 210, and Hoover, 49.
