State Deputy of Order Will Speak at Meeting of Two Groups.
Local Knights of Columbus are to observe Columbus Day Monday with social events and meetings. The feature event is to be a joint celebration of Council 437 .and .the Fourth Degree Assembly at the K.
of C. clubhouse. e principal speaker is to be Harry G. Kitchin, Richmond, state deputy of the order. . Mr. Kitchin is to| be guest of honor at a dinner given by organization officials before| the meeting. A broadcast outlining the life of Columbus is to be given at 4 p. m. Monday over WFBM by William J. Greener, organization grand knight. John H. Blackwell has been named general ‘chairman of the bingo party, [for the support of the Gibault Boys’ Home, in the K. of C. auditorium Sunday night. He is to be assisted by Paul E, Just, Arthur E. Irwin, Hymbert P. Pagani, Louis V. Dugan and Norbert C. O'Connor. A dance for K. of C. members and their guests/ is to be held Saturday night in the organization's assembly room as the opening feature of the Columbus commemoration.

Simchas Torah, or reading of the law, in which children of the temple march seven times around the synagogue bearing scrolls, was held at sundown services yesterday. The regular Jewish Sabbath service is to be held at sundown today. Beginning next Friday night the usual temple services are to be held at 8:15.
U. S. INCOME HIGHER BY $220,772,808
By United Press WASHINGTON, Oct. 9.—Improved business and the 1934 revenue act boosting tax rates jumped Federal tax collections for the 1936 fiscal year to $3,520,208,381, a gain of $820,777,808 over the preceding year, Internal Revenue Commissioner Guy T. Helvering announced today. Submitting his revised collection figures for the year ended June 30 to Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau Jr, he said that income tax collections rose 28.5 per cent to $313.707,921 and miscellaneous taxes increased 21.5 per cent to $2,035.632,870.
