With the return of Nino Martini tonight, the Kostelanetz programs resume their semi-formal status—the union of operatic arias and dance tunes. The new series, beginning at 8 p. m. on WFBM, will bring you the Italian. tenor each Wednesday night until Lily Pons has completed her second motion picture,”when she is to replace him. Mr. Kostelanetz, we were told, has spent several wetks in selecting
and rehearsing an 18-voice mixed variety to his Wednesday evening
chorus, which is to add further programs. The chorus will appear
twice on each broadcast; the first group is to feature folk - ballads, .spirituals and familiar songs, and the second will present operetta, musi-
cal comedy and film selections. With the Kostelanetz touch to the arrangements, we may expect to’ hear something “fancy” in the line of semi-popular choral song. (Incidentally, we are hoping that some day some one will tell us the difference between “semi-classical” and “semi-popular” music. All we know about these overworked phrases is that. the music.is definitely "gomi” ry.
