Speculator’s Control Tends to Bring About Change, - Clubmen Told.
A prediction that Fascists will control France in the near future was made here today by Benjamin C. Marsh, People’s Lobby executive secretary, of Washington, D. C. Mr. Marsh, speaking at a luncheon meeting of civic and social workers at the Washington Hotel, declared that after a recent tour of Europe he is of the opinion that the “new France is controlled by the same predatory powers as the ‘old,’ and its inevitable failure will lead to a Fascist France.” “The French ‘New Deal’,” he said, “with the popular front in control has enacted some desirable social legislation, but the alleged socialization of the Bank of France and the r8duction of interest rates has chiefly helped speculators in lands and in stocks.
Living Cost to Rise
“Labor legislation has added about one-third to the wage bill of industry, which will increase the cost of living at least equally. “The ‘new’ France is still owned by speculators in land, in commodi- | ties and stocks, and the Blum government is afraid to tax. When it does, it probably will fall. It has borrowed about $1,550,000,000, only a small part for refunding. “M. Blum, wealthy Socialist and premier, took the lead in urging nonintervention in Spain, knowing that the Fascist powers, regardless of this pact, would send munitions
