‘CHARGED WITH TRAFFIC DEATH
Six Lose Lives in Crashes Over Indiana; oll
Here Now 110. iF Virgil Jackson, 19-year-old cab - driver, of 115 S. Arlington-av, today was held by police on charges of involuntary manslaughter in connec-| tion with the death last night of Perry Owens, 44, of 917 Edison-st. _ Mr. Owens was killed instantly in an- automobile-taxicab collision at Pennsylvania and North-sts. . Six persons lost their lives yesterday in Indiana traffic outside of Marion County. Five of the deaths resulted directly from automobile accidents while a runaway team of horses was responsible for the other. Mr. Owens’ death, the third caused by ‘traffic accidents in Indianapolis in as many days, increased the county traffic death toll for 1936 to 110. : Deputy Coroner Dr. John Wyttenbuch ordered Jackson held on manslaughter charges after an investigation. Mr. Owens, night watchman for the Indianapolis News, was en route home in an automobile driven by his brother-in-law, Earl R. Green, 44, of 707 E. North-st.
Hurled From Car
Mr. Green told police his car was spun to the curb and Mr. Owens was hurled out by the impact. Mr. Green and another passenger in his car, Marjorie Taylor, 726 E. 9th-st, escaped injury. Jackson and Glenn Dugan, 26, -3918 Byram-av, cab passenger, also were uninjured. Police arrested three other motorists as a result of automobile accidents last night. Oscar Eaden, 43, of 2030 Parker-av, was charged with drunken driving after a collision at 25th and La Salle-sts. Fred Scott, 32, of 2616 N. Illinoisst, was arrested for failure to have a driver's license after his automobile struck a railroad abutment in the 3400 block on W. Washingtonst, police said. Mrs. Isabelle Coswell, 32, of 557 N. Lynn-st, a passenger, was hurt. Paul Crawshaw, 19, of 946 W. 28th-st, was charged with failure to have a driver’s license after his|
