Housing Presents Problem as Heavy Attendance Is Indicated.

Ind, Sept. 23.— An advance registration of approximately 1500 for the Indiana State Medical Association convention to be held here Oct. 6, 7 and 8 has created a serious accommodations problem, Dr. David B. Bickel, general chairman, said today. Unable to accommodate the visitors in hotels, a search has been started for rooms in private homes, he said. Dr. R. L. Sensenich, South Bend, is association president and will preside over business sessions. Ten speakers prominent nationally in medicine and surgery are scheduled on the scientific program. Registration, the annual golf tournament, trap shooting and a { meeting of the house of delegates and the council, association executive ' bodies, are scheduled on the opening day. Scientific sessions are to open on {the second day and during the | afternoon delegates are to meet in | four sections featuring the special- | ties of medicine, surgery, ear, nose land throat diseases and anesthesia. | Election of officers and selection {of the 1937 convention city are | scheduled on the closing day, to be | followed by a’general scientific ses- | sion dt which five of the nationally | prominent speakers are to appear.

Ashby has exhibited his photographic work in galleries in the United States and abroad, and has been awarded a fellowship in the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. He is a member of the local Camera Club.

Wall used an imitation G-man badge he bought at the Indiana State Fair to gain admission to a local theater, police said. He enjoyed the show and his little trick until he came out of the theater and was arrested by police,

summoned by the ticket seller, and charged with impersonating an offi-

cer. (An unsympathetic judge in city court fined him $1 and costs.

At a recent meeting of Citizens Gas and Coke Utility trustees, Mayor Kern urged that directors of the utility establish closer public relations, he revealed today. Praising the management for economy and efficiency since the utility was taken over last September, Mayor Kern said he felt the public should be informed of the progress being made by directors. Commenting on possibility ,of in-

troducing natural gas here, Mayor |

Kern said it was evident the utility proposed to force natural gas to compete with the artificial product by reducing costs. The utility, having made a 5-cent reduction to consumers since the reorganization, has promised further reductions when a survey of costs is completed, he pointed out.. This is expected within ‘the next few months.

OWENS TO DIRECT’ SOUTH BEND WPA

1. Appointment of William F. Owens to succeed Charles W. Legeman as director of the WPA: district at South Bend was announced today by Wayne Coy, state WPA administrator.

Mr. Legeman, who has been in South Bend since the beginning of the WPA program, has been advanced to the state office where he is to succeed R. W. Bunch as office manager. Mr. Bunch became director of personnel for the State Department of Public Welfare, Mr. Owens was director of the Vincennes WPA district until it was merged with the Evansville district
