THE INDIANAPOLIS TIMES

Season Opens After

Indiana's state parks opened their | fall season Sept. 1 after establishing |

new attendance records for the spring and summer months when

‘more than 680,000 visitors were reg-

istered, Virgil M. Simmons, conservation commissioner, announced today. Park officials expect an attendance

in excess of 100,000 during Septem -

ber and October. To Sept. 1, park attendance was 121,831 ahead of the same date in 1935, indicating total attendance for 1936 will exceed last year's record-breaking total of 770,400, Mr. Simmons said. More visitors have been recorded at each park and memorial where admission * is charged and major gains have been registered at Me-

.{Cormick’s Creek, Turkey Run, the

Dunes and Spring Mill, the commis- | sioner said. Approximately 95,000 more persons have visited the latter

i

four parks this year than during the spring and summer of 1935. Many of the park inns already have reservations for fall visitors,

and officials expect a great number |

of persons to be attracted by the reds, yellows and oranges of the fall foliage. Persons expecting to visit the parks are urged by Dr. Simmons to

plan their trips during the week if | possible to avoid week-end traffic

congestion.

- FAIR VISITOR ROBBED
