Hot Weather and Vacation Season Found Reacting on Markets.
Times Special WASHINGTON, Aug. 28. — City _ produce markets in late August sti” were under: the influence of hou weather and the vacation season,
the Department of Agriculture said today in its weekly report on the
Midwestern area. Price trends were found inclined generally downward
under liberal supplies of most kinds. Rains in the central corn belt
‘brought great improvement in truck
crop conditions, especially carrots, beets, cabbage and late potatoes, the survey revealed. Supplies of Eastern grapes ine creased, the report sajd, with Michigan Champions selling at 15 to 17 cents for an 8-quart basket in Chi-
TL ; cago. Similar varieties were quoted
at 8 to 12-cents in the East. Cali-
fornia grapes were in large supply with prices declining.
Peach Market Steady
The peach market remained about steady in the Middle West for fruit shipped from Illinois, Michigan and other Northern producing sections. Southern peaches weakened. Elbertas from Arkansas and Illinois were selling at $225 to $250 a bushel.
