Anti-Saloon League Is to Center Its Activities on Local: Option. ——

By United Press WASHINGTON, Aug. 21—The Anti-Saloon League, a significant force in the 1928 and 1932 presidential campaigns, will remain neutral this year, Edward B. Dunford, league counsel, said today. Mr. Dunford said the league believes it musti:go back to the “grass roots” to arouse fresh enthusiasm on the wet-dry issue. Therefore, its full energies will center politically this fall in the states facing referenda on liquor issues. The league, Mr. Dunford said, probably will not even disseminate to voters the wet-dry records of Gov. Alf M. Landon and President Roosevelt. In the past the records of the major candidates have been published by the league.

Three States to Vote

The league’s activities this fall will center in Texas, California and Maine, where local option votes are

a grin on his face as he looked up the next train back to Bartville. Then, he tackled his grapefruit. .

Cherrington, head of the Board of Prohibition and Public Morals of the Methodist Episcopal Church, said that at present “a wet psychology” exists. : “Our campaign is strictly educational,” said Mr. Cherrington. A trend toward return of prohibition already has started, he added. . “I haven't any doubt there will be a decided reaction against present conditions under repeal just as ‘there was reaction against prohibition,” he said. “The only ultimate solution of the alcohol problem is to discover the truth about it in all its phases.” Dr. Cherrington said he con-
