“EXPECT FARLEY AT DEMOCRATIC EDITORS’ PARLEY
Hoosier Delegation - Went East to Invite Him to Meeting, Report.
BY DANIEL M. KIDNEY Times Stall Writer
WASHINGTON, Aug. 21.—James A. Farley is going to Indiana for the Democratic Editorial Association meeting at French Lick, Aug. 28-29, Sasording to Senator Sherman Min-
Woe will just be here Saturday (Aug. 29) and then only to shake hands and hold pow-wows and not make any special speech,” Senator Minton said. It was learned that the visit of 8enator Minton, Gov. McNutt, Omer Jackson, Democratic state chairman; Thomas Taggart, national committeeman, and Mrs. Samuel M. Ralston, national committeewoman, to national headquarters in New York was to get Mr. Farley to attend the meeting. Both Gov. McNutt and “Senator Minton came here later, but failed to elaborate on that point. However, it is reported here that sore spots remain within the Demo- «+ cratic ranks, despite public profession of faith in the McNutt-nomi-nated state ticket, and it was thought best to have Mr. Farley appear {in Indiana.
Party by Peters Rumored
One story here is that R. Earl Peters, state FHA director and Mr. Farley's friend because he was for
Roosevelt before Chicago, was planning a privats party on a northern Indiana lake to be attended by especially invited anti-McNutt administration Democratic bigwigs oh the very dates next week when the French Lick meeting is to be held. Asked if all the factional leaders would be on hand to greet Farley, Senator Minton said: “They will be if they are smart.” Senator Minton split with Gov. McNutt to the point of backing Pleas Greenlee’'s gubernatorial candidacy. But the leading postconvention opposition to the McNutt organization is reported at present to be in the ranks of the old-time followers of Sen. Frederick VanNuys, who were supporting E. Kirk McKinney.
M’Nutt, Aids Confident.
Reports are current here that some of this opposition is so outspoken that supporters of the nominee, Lieut. Gov. Clifford Townsend.
are denying that he was really the,
Governor's candidate. A movement is said to be afoot to take advantage of the separate ballots and support the national Democratic ticket and scratch the state ticket as a rebuke to the McNutt leadership. Gov. McNutt and his lieutenants are sald to be confident that will not be successful, however, and that both the state and national tickets will carry in Indiana by a large margin.

STEEL WORKERS WAR OVER C. I. 0. PLEDGE
By United Press CHICAGO, Aug. 21.—A word war waged today between employes’ representatives of the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corp. and Van A. Bitther, regional director of the Committee for Industrial- Organization, over ‘Mr. Bittner’s announcement that repre= sentatives of 40,000 steel workers had indorsed the John L. Lewis movement. Employes’ representatives of five Carnegie-Illinois plants described the Bittner statements as “exagerrated, garbled and distorted.” “The fact that this statement was prepared in and issued from the company offices makes it clear that jit is company propaganda,” Mr. Bittner retorted.
