TESTIMONY HEARD IN FARMER SLAYING
Self-Defense Angle Aided, Officials Say.
Presentation of evidence continued today at a coroner's inquest into the death of Daniel O’Harra, 63-year-old Julietta . farmer, shot Tuesday during an argument over a cow. Henry August Eikman, 53, a neighbor, is held under $2000 bond in connection with the slaying.
Officials said a verdict of justifi-
able homicide might be returned in:
light of purported testimony indicating Eikman fired in self-defense. Eikman admitted the shooting, ac-
cording to officers, but said he thought O’Harra was reaching for a gun. Deputy sheriffs claimed that O’Harra’s wife, Carrie, removed a blackjack from the dead man’s pocket after the shooting. Eikman was cut on the arm by O’Harra when they started arguing over whether a neighbor’s cow should be permitted to graze on Eikman’s property, testimony revealed. Eikman was given a preliminary hearing in Muncipal Court yesterday and his case continued until Aug. 25.
