OLD SHIP IS USED FOR SAFETY TESTS

By United Press LEE HALL, Va., Aug. 19. — The old cargo vessel Nantasket was towed out into the James River for a series of spectacular tests today of newest devices for safety of those who go down to sea in ships. The ship which once carried supplies to the A. E. F. in France, was taken from the graveyard of the war-time fleet to serve as a “guinea pig” for maritime experts appointed by Congress to study sea safety. From the experiments it is hoped to perfect safeguards against sea tragedies such as brought death to more than 100 persons aboard the Morro Castle two years ago.
