Six Appointed to Faculty Positions for Coming Academic Year.

Resignations and appointments to _ Indianapolis public school teaching ' staffs were approved by the school board last night. The following changes, submitted. by Superintendent Paul C. Repairs and- reconditioning work on school buildings and’ grounds are nearly completed for the opening of school Sept. 8, A. H. Sielken, building and grounds superintendent, told the board.

WEEDS CUT DOWN AT COUNTY CROSSROADS

New Tractor-Drawn Mowers Are Used in Work.

The menace of high weeds at intersections on county roads has been eliminated, County Surveyor Herbert Bloemker announced today. Twelve men operating six new tractor-drawn mowers have been Cutting down weeds, Mr. Bloemker sa As soon as the mowers complete work in one district they move into another, Mr. Bloemker said. There are 11 districts in the county highway system.

2 LOCAL TEACHERS STUDY AT COLUMBIA

Enrolled in College at Eastern University for Extra Work.

Two Indianapolis teachers are attending Columbia University’s summer session of Teacher's College. They are Miss Dorothy Carey, 750 Graham-av, and Mrs. Frances Pennington Carter, 2035 N. Meridianst. Miss Carey is studying for the degree of master of arts in mathematics. Mrs. Carter, a critic teachi is studying elementary educaon.

Straw, Baling Machine Burn Times Special NOBLESVILLE, Ind. July 29.— A straw stack, a baling machine and 1200 bales of straw were burned last night in a fire on the Charles Lynn farm near here. Spontaneous combustion was blamed.

Reunion Is Arranged Members of the Grenard, Westfall and Tracy families are to hold their annual reunion in Milligan Park,. Crawfordsville, on Aug. 9.

HOSPITAL CHOOSES TWO FOR POSITIONS

Methodist Heads.

Methodist Hospital today announced the appointments of Miss Mary Virginia Kendall and “ Miss Nora Mae Hutto as operating room supervisor and obstetrical floor supervisor. Miss Kendall, a Methodist Hospital Nursing School graduate in 1933, has been surgical nurse since her graduation and succeeds Mrs.

Florence Sayce French, who recently resigned after several years as operating room supervisor, Miss Hutto succeeds Miss Lelia Cordrey. She was graduated in 1924 from Indiana University School of Nursing and formerly was a supervisor of the William H. Coleman Hospital obstetrical department. She also served as superintendent of Shelbyville (Ind.) city hospital. Both began their new duties this month.

WAR VETERAN HELD IN SLAYING PROBE

Movie Extra Found Dead in Her Apartment, Throat Slashed. By United-Press ’ HOLLYWOOD, July 29.—Frank J. Heflin, 39, a disabled war veteran, was held on suspicion of murder today while police investigated the death of Mrs. Dorothy Jay Corcoran, movie extra, who was found in her apartment with her throat slashed. The suspect was taken into custody after neighbors reported he had visited Mrs. Corcoran shortly

before her death and had quarreled with her.
