William Hard Is Employed by G. 0. P. as Its Radio Reporter.

Landon’s acceptance speech of last week, : The program, at 8 o'clock, is to: be carried by the NBC Red network. ~ Meanwhile the Republicans have engaged William Hard, writer and news commentator, as their “Radio Reporter.” WIRE will carry his 15minute broadcasts four times a week, beginning tonight. The story of the amiable, apparently harmless and easy-going English citizen who turned out to be an expert ‘counterfeiter, as told in J. B. Priestley’s hit play, “Laburnum Grove,” will bring Frank Morgan to the microphone tonight as guest of Rupert Hughes. Also present will be Carmel Myers,’ who was at the height of her popularity in the olden days of silent screen “vamps.” Miss Meyers + has turned singer, and is to be heard in a melodramatic skit. With music by Nat Shilkret and Benny Goodman, the program over WFBM at 7:30 p. m.

Another former picture star now singing in night clubs and vaudeville is Estelle Taylor, who is to be guest star on Ted Hammerstein's half hour at 6 tonight on WFBM. Katherine Mayfield, Broadway's newest singing discovery, also‘ will be on the bill. She has scored a success in her first play, “New Faces.” Nl ® = = Connie Boswell is expected to demonstrate just why she is called the “sweetheart of swing” in a guest appearance on Ben Bernie's program .at 7 tonight over WLW, Connie, with her sisters, Martha and Vet, came up from! the South a few years ago to electrify listeners with a new style of singing. After finishing several successful seasons on radio and stage, and having started an avalanche of girls’ trios, Martha and Vet decided to retire. But Connie, who always was the featured vocalist, went along by herself. She's still one of the most sought-after singers of the air. } ” ” 2 Returned vacationists at local stations this week include Mrs, Velma Patman, WIRE'S program director, and Newscaster Ken Ellington of WFBM. Ken took =a busman’s holiday in Cincinnati watching his colleague, Paul Sullivan, on the job at WLW; went up to Chicago for a visit with the home folks, and wound up with a week at Lake Wawasee in company with Manager Ted Nicholas of the Lyric. , Ken says he was the envy of the whole resort when he acquired a tandem bicycle. Ken took along $75 worth of fishing tackk, and never had a line in the water. The bicycle, he opines, has come to stay.
The “human test tube,” Carl A. Erickson, is to be interviewed by Charles Martin for the “threeminute thrill” portion of WLW's program at 6 tonight. Erickson, 64, was the “lifer” who paid his debt to society by submitting to germ injections for two years in the experimental efforts to find a new treatment for tuberculosis. You will recall that he was pardoned by the Governor of Colorado. ‘
