70 OBTAIN DATA ON ROAD NEEDS|

Six Survey Parties Collect Information in State to Aid Planning.

Six survey parties equipped with portable scales for the weighing of trucks using Indiana highways are collecting data for the Highway Survey Commission, James D. Adams, State Highway Commission chairman, announced today. Similar surveys are in progress

_ or soon will be under way in near-

“1y all of the 48 states. Mr. Adams

said. . The Highway Survey Commission, created by the Indiana General Assembly in 1935, is making an extensive study of traffic conditions in co-operation with the State Highway Commission and the United States Bureau of Public Roads. Results of this and other studies now in progress are to be embodied in a report to the General Assembly in 1937, Mr. Adams said. Determination, by actual weighing on the road, of the loads being carried by trucks, is one of the phases

‘of the survey which will provide

data of great value in future highway construction, Mr, Adams said. Five men are assigned to esch survey party, and all trucks are being stopped and weighed, and, in addition, information is being ecollected on the origin and destination of the truck and the commodities carried. : The survey, started July 1, is to continue for about a year, Mr. Adams said.

CHAOS IS REPORTED IN ETHIOPIAN CITIES

Invaders Hard Pressed to Hold Gains, Paris Hears.

By United Press PARIS, July 16.—Mystery thickened today concerning conditions in rain-soaked Ethiopia, where an Italian army is trying to consolidate its victory over a country of some 7,000,000 .people never before conquered. : Ignoring Italian denials, French

agencies persisted in their report of

a state approaching chaos in the neighborhood of Addis Ababa and Harar. The Fournier Agency again reported that Marshal Rodolfo Graziani, “viceroy” of the country, had been wounded seriously. His wounds, it was said, were received when Ethiopians attacked Addis Ababa,
