MICHIGAN CITY FLIER WINS SAFETY AWARD
Vic Lindemann Honored for Air Tour Record.
Sur.
The eighth all-Indiana Air Tour ended at Municipal Airport yesterday with the presentation of the Lincoln National Life Insurance Co. silver safety trophy to Vie Lindemann, Michigan City airport manager. Following the presentation by O. O. Carpenter, company representative in Indianapolis, Walker W.
Winslow, president of the Indiana Aircraft Trades Association, which sponsored the tour, commended tour pilots for their carefulness throuaout the six-day flight. More than 20 cities were visited by the 150 pilots and passengers. Fifty planes started on the tour, although several were forced to drop out. Only pne crash, in which no one was injured, marred the tour. By=ron Spangler and T. G. Louden, both of Culver, crashed on the next to last leg of the tour in taking off at the Fort Wayne airport for Kokomo yesterday.
PURCHASERS WANTED FOR GARBAGE CANS
Hammond Merchants. Have 10,000 20-Gallon Pails on Hand.
Times Special. HAMMOND, June 29.—Ten thousand 20-gallon garbage cans are going begging for purchasers here. Why?. The health department, sity officials said, is rot enforcing the recently passed ordinance re-
quiring every householder to provide a covered can for refuse. Merchants, who were advised to lay in supplies of cans, are irked at the councilmen for giving them a bum steer by advising them to prepare for a garbage-can buying, boom. Clarence Mason, health department head, feels his department is blamed unjustly. “I told them not to pass that ordinance in the first place” he said.
CITY, UTILITIES SUED BY INJURED WOMAN
Telepho and und Light Companies A Cited in $50,000 Action.
Suilt asking damages of $50,000 from the Indiana Bell Telephone Co., the Indianapolis Power and Light Co. and the City of Indianapolis was on file today in Circuit Court. The complaint, filed by . Mrs. Louise E. Greely, 651 E. 44th-st, sets cut that the plaintiff suffered a broken left leg and other injuries which caused her left leg to become one inch shorter than her other leg, when she fell over a utilities’ cable anchor in a grass plot on 44th-st near College-av, Oct. 9, 1834. The action charges the city with being negligent in not placing bar-
riers at the spot or ordering removal |
of the anchor.
