Banana Salad Bowl

. Wash and dry carefully one or more varieties of fresh crisp greens ‘such as romaine, lettuce, watercress, endive, chicory, escarole; young dandelion greens or beet tops. Chop them if you like. Rub a salad bowl on the inside with onion or cut clove Ppt garlic if desired, and arrange Ss sétractively in it. Garnish greens with célery curls, onion, radish roses or long thin strips of Ja to. add eolor. - Slices or long strips of ripe banana will blend with any of the ingredients and give a delicious flavor. Just before serving add a tart French dressing and toss the contents of the bowl gently until every piece is glistening with dressing.

Banana Compote

~ One pint canned grapefruit or 2 fresh grapefruit, peeled sections and uice. . 3 ripe bananas, diced. 26 white pillow mints, crushed.

» Mix ingredients and chill. Serve in glass or dainty china compote and garnish with fresh sprig of mint. Tropical Mousse

1 cup mashed fully ripe bananas (2 large or 3 medium sized) 8 tablespoons orange juice 13 teaspoon grated orange rind 1, cup seedless white grapes, cut into halves + 3% tablespoons brown sugar ; 1% teaspoon salt * 1 cup heavy cream

* Mix together banana, orange Buice and grated rind. Add grapes, sugar and salt. Whip cream until fluffy but not stiff. Fold in banana mixture. Pour into freezing tray of automatic refrigerator and freeze until firm. Serves 6 to 8.

Mix bananas and pineapple together. (Pineapple prevents discoloration of bananas). Add other ingredients and mix well. Spread mixture on one slice of buttered bread ‘and top with other slice. e with sweet or sour pickle “fans” as garnish. © 2. Spread slice of bread with cheese and cover with slices of banana. Butter a second slice of \ fread, spread with tart jam and put sandwich together.

lamb. Trim meat in neat pieces of clear meat. Put bones and trimmings into sauce pan, add cold water and let stand 30 muintes. Bring slowly to the boiling point and simmer 30 minutes. Strain. Brown lamb in hot oiled frying pan and put into casserole. Add tomatoes, minced onions, salt, pepper and broth. Cover casserole and cook about an hour. Add peas and cook 30 minutes longer, until tender. Remove meat and vegetables to center of hot platter and surround with a border of steamed rice. Thicken liquid in casserole with flour stirred to a smooth paste with a little cold water. Pour gravy over meat, garnish with ripe olives and serve.

13 cup pearl barley 1 dried mushroom soup bone 4 cups cold water Soup vegetables or any left-over vegetables.

Put soup bone in kettle, add water, barley and mushroom. Bring slowly to the boiling point and boil gently for two and one-half hours. Season with salt and pepper and soup vegetables. I usually use 2 onions, 1 medium sized turnip, 2 carrots, about 1; cup diced celery
