Ne per reporters and phoaphers were - passengers on the _seyen-car, light steel train, which
and interior and exterior body by . Henry Dreyfuss, industrial designer. . . The cars, lighter than standard equipment, weigh 438 tons, They seat 200 persons. Observation Platform Enclosed Built “turtle-back,” the windows and doors of the cars are flush with _ the walls, Decorations are homey, and the old style baggage rack, that swung perilously above passengers threatening them with a deluge of grips, have been utilized as a part of the lighting system. Two-by-two seating is banned for a hospitable group seating. The observation platform has been enclosed in glass. The dining car has been transformed in banquet fashion with passengers seated with backs to windows. Doors operate by push buttons and “electric eye.” Individual Reading Lamps Interior decorations in brown, rust, tans, and green predominate. Lounge rooms are equipped with double rotating chairs. The lighting system comes from a broad band running coach-length in addition to individual reading lamps. Jars and jerks are minimized by the employment of rubber buffers | between cars. The train moves or stops as a unit. Cork flooring insulates walls and ceilings of cars against dampness and noise. : Axles of the cars were built in the Big Four shops at Beech Grove. Wheels are equipped with ball bearings. ; Air Conditioning Used Air-conditioning, vapor heating— with - thermostatic control—is employed. Locomotive and cars have been painted dark gray with a silver window trimming. The locomotive, 91 feet long, has hidden flood lights to illuminate it at night. Smoke and gases are lifted above the train by a special “contraption.” The train’s schedule, between Cleveland and Detroit, is to be a “mile-a-minute.”
