Project Seeking Community Beautification Aided by Club’s Gifts.
A project of community beatbification through sharing surplus plants from their own garden is being conducted by the Indianapolis
Council of Garden Clubs at its garden center, the Mayer Chapel Neighborhood House, 448 W. Nor-

particularly, have been distributed to women in the neighborhood. “It’s a ‘before and after project,’” explained Mrs. H., P. Willwerth, Council president. “We encourage the cleaning of the yards and afterward, a beautification with plants and greenery.” : Between 30 and 40 women call a the center each Monday morning at 10 to receive plants from Mrs. Paul Beard, chairman of the council program and first vice president, and Mrs. David Fetty, distribution committee chairman of the garden center. Children in the neighborhood are participating in a gourd seed contest. Prizes are to be awarded in the fall for the winning decorated gourds. Mrs. Walter P. Morton and Mrs. Beard, with the help of persons in the neighborhood, cleaned the yard at the center. Planting is done by Council members. “Thig is the Council’s first project of this nature,” said Mrs. Willwerth, “and its ultimate aim is to encourage interest in garden clubs.” The Council, comprising eight groups, today indorsed the proposed establishment of a municipal botanical garden in a city park as a students’: laboratory. Establishment of the garden has been recommended by Mayor Kern. The Council also indorsed the recommendation of Mrs. Louis E. Markun, Park Board member, that a portion of the Harding farm acquired for the West Side park be set aside for a forest preserve. A, C. Sallee, city park superin-
