Italian Composer Respighi to Be Honored by NBC Artists.

A special memorial program honoring the late Ottorino Respighi, noted Italian composer, is to be offered tonight at 7 on the NBC Blue network. : His “Il Tramonto,” based on Shelly’'s poem, “Sunset,” is to be included on the program. Celia Branz, contralto, is to be the soloist, accompanied by the NBC String Quartet. To Respighi, more than any other composer, goes the credit of making Italy “symphony conscious” and introducing a new conception of Ital-

ian music to the world. To listen-|

ers accustomed to think of his country as a strgnghold of opera for more than ‘two centuries, Respighi proclaimed a musical renaissance. His colorful symphonic works, written in the modern spirit and for an augmented orchestra, have become stadard numbers in the repertories of all leading symphoniggorganizations, » » #

To the few Indianapolis people who will not be at the Speedway or listening to race descriptions on the air tomorrow afternoon, we might mention another ‘“classic,” Verdi's “Aida,” third production of the current Metropolitan spring season to be broadcast over WLW and the NBC Blue network at 12:30.

Orne of the most popular and frequently performed of operas, “Adia” is to be sung tomorrow by a cast of newcomers, including Rosa Tentoni in the title role; Bruna Castagna as Amneris; Sydney Rayner in the leading tenor part of Rhadames; Joseph Royer as Amonasro and Norman Cordon, John Gurney, Maxine Stellman and Ludovico Olivero. Gennaro Papi is to conduct. ” ” ” Dvorak’s Quintet, which stands with the Schumann and Brahms quintets as the most popular examples of this limited field of chamber music, is to be performed by an ensemble of students and teachers of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music at 9 tomorrow morning, CBS-WFBM. 2 =
