EUROPE'S CRISIS TO BE SUBJECT AT CONFERENCE Sixth Earlham Institjte on Foreign Affairs Opens Tonight. Vim'* Special RICHMOND, Ind., May 14. —An address on "Fascism and War" by Paul H. Douglas, Chicago University industrial relations professor, is to open the sixth Earlham Institute of Foreign AfTairs at that college tonight. Principal theme for this year’s institute, which is to continue with day-long sessions tomorrow and Saturday, is to be the current European crisis, supplemented by discussion of Far Eastern affairs. The program feature is to be an address Saturday night by Fred K. Nielsen, former Department of State solicitor. Mr. Nielsen, long experienced in foreign service, is to discuss “Confused Concepts of Neutrality.” Former’ Editor to Speak At a round table tomorrow morning Grover Clark, consultant of Far Eastern affairs and former editor of the Peiping (China) Leader, is to talk on "America’s Place in the Far East.” Mr. Clark is author of “Economic Revolution in China” and “The Great Wall Crumbles.” A second round table on “Collective Action and Peace” Is to be led by Prof. Ellery C. Stowell, international law Instructor at American University, Washington. Following, a luncheon is to be given in honor of speakers. A reception for members and speakers is to be given at 4 in Carpenter Hall. The evening session speaker is to be James O. McDonald, Foreign Policy Association board chairman. Former League Commissioner Mr. McDonald until recently served as high commissioner of the League of Nations in charge of refugees from Germany. He Is scheduled to speak on “The Political Throat to the League.” Two round tables Saturday morning are to be devoted to “Expanding Japan” with Mr. Clark in charge and "The Settlement of the European Crisis” with Mr. Stowell as speaker. The afternoon feature is to be a presentation of scenes from "As You Like It” by the Earlham speech department. Presiding officers are to be Elmer W. Stout, Indianapolis banker; Paul Comstock, local attorney, and Dean M. O. Ross, Earlham.
HIGH SCHOOL PAINTINGS SHOWN AT NOTRE DAME State Represented by St. Mary’s Academy and Plymouth. Timet Special SOUTH BEND, Ind., May 14. Paintings by pupils of St. Mary’s Academy. Holy Cross, and Plymouth High School represent Indiana in the first annual secondary school art exhibition sponsored by the University of Notre Dame. More than 250 paintings of high school pupils in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin are in the galleries. Included are paintings in oil and water colors, drawings in charcoal, pencil and ink, and posters designed for commercial use. Winners are to be announced next Thursday after Judging by prominent art critics. . CONTRACT IS APPROVED Fountain County Courthouse Award Given PWA O. K. Timet Special COVINGTON, Ind., May 14. Contract for construction of anew Fountain County Courthouse, awarded Jacobson Brothers, Chicago, on a bid of $199,950, was approved today by Public Works Administration officials in Indianapolis. BUTLER POOL IS OPEN Swimming Tank Season to Start June 8. The Butler University swimming pool is to be opened June 8, it. was announced today. The pool will be open six days a week from 9:30 a. m. to 10 p. m. and on Sundays from 1 to 20 p. m. John Barnett will be in charge, assisted by Ed Trott.
