3 TECH PUPILS GAIN NATIONAL AWARDS IN ART
Scholarships Are Prizes; Others Win Places in Exhibition. Three Technical High School art pupils won scholarships in the twelfth annual contest sponsored by The Scholastic, national high school weekly, it was announced today. They are Elizabeth S. White, scholarship to the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, R. I.; Donald E. Carter, Columbus School of Art, Columbus, 0., and Arthur B. Long, Art Institute of Chicago. Eight Tech pupils winning recognition in the art division are Miss White, Carter, Long, Mary Jane White, Jeanne Forcum, Ed Hutchens. Robert L. King and Charles Munsey. Take Literary Honors Marie Schlueter, Robert * Berry, Joanne DeMilt, Madge Rutherford and Eugene Lawlis were awarded honors in the literary division. Miss Schlueter won fourth prize in the short story contest, and the others received honorable mention. In addition to a scholarship. Miss White received third prize in the print division, honorable mention in the George Bellows memorial awards, and a chance to exhibit her entry in the pictorial arts division. Work of Carter and Long also is to be placed in tjhe International Scholastic Art Exhibition, which is to go on tour. Other Winners Listed The exhibition is sponsored jointly by The Scholastic and the American Federation of Arts. Other winners at Tech received the following awards: Miss Jane White, tmrd prize, plastic wood modeling: Miss Forcum, honorable mention, plastic wood modeling: Hutchens, honorable mention, Jewelry division; King, the right to exhibit in the metal arts division, and Munsey, a place in the jewelry division of the exhibit. 55 GRANTED' HEARINGS State Prisoners to Present Pleas for Leniency Next Week. Fifty-five inmates of the state prison and reformatory, including one serving life as a habitual crimiinal, will be granted leniency hearings at next week’s meeting of the State Clemency Commission, it was announced today. The “lifer” is Floyd Black, sentenced in Vigo County, Oct 31, 1925, after being convicted of c itructing a railroad track.

TEXAS CLERGYMAN TALKS AT SERVICE i Attendance, Financial Aid Is Urged in Sermon. Meditation, regular church attendance ahd proper financial support would revolutionize any church on earth and bring Christianity to its highest peak, according to Dr. L. N. D. Wells, pastor of the East Dallas Christian Church of Dallas, Tex. Dr. Wells, who has been in Indianapolis conferring with the church's board of review, spoke at midweek services in the Central Christian Church last night. He is president-elect of the international convention of the Disciples of Christ. "If every member of every congregation would attend as often as possible and would contribute as much as he could toward its financial support, the church would be without a single physical problem,” he said. The Rev. W. A. Shullenberger, church pastor, was in chirge of the service. Dr. George W Buckner led prayer service.
