OPEN CAMPAIGN TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CATHEDRAL
The Rt. Rev. Noll Explains Plans for Facade, Mosaic Dome. With the opening of a campaign to raise SIOO,OOO for remodeling S3. Peter and Paul Cathedral, plans for the construction of an elaborate Roman classic facade, to replace the present one built in 1904, took definite form today. The Rt. Rev. Raymond R. Noll, pastor of the Cathedral parish, announced the campaign is to close May 26. The new front will allow space for a baptistry, several new offices and Increased room in the choir loft. It was not until March of this year that plans were drafted and arrangements made to raise the necessary funds., Glass Dome Ordered A large glass mosaic dome, approximately 25 feet in diameter, with the figures of Christ with SS. Peter and Paul patterned in its multicolored glass, already has been ordered for the new sanctuary. In addition, the modifications in the interior are to include all new stained glass windows and a red marble carpet leading to the sanctuary and the dome. , The Rev. Noll said that work Is to be started on the front within the next 10 days. D. A- Bohlen & Sons, architects, drafted the plans. Moynahan & Carson Construction Cos. is to carry them out. One hundred and fifty members of the parish start the campaign field work today. # Several gifts already have been received. LABOR TO CELEBRATE Union Committee Announces Plans for May Day Observance. A joint committee comprised of members from the unions of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers, Radio Workers and American Federation of Hosiery Workers today announced plans for a May Day celebration May 1 at 168 W. 9th-st. The purpose of the meeting is to revive the traditions of May Day, and to promote unioni2ation of all Indianapolis labor.
