CANNERS VIEW BOOM TOMATO CROP PROBABLE Industry Faoes Price War, Over-Producton, Says Association Head. Because Indiana has prospects of the largest tomato crop in recent years, the canning industry is faced with over-production and price cutting, Kenneth N. Rider, Franklin, president of the Indiana Canners’ 'Association, said today. A two-day conference of the organization was to open thus afternoon in the Claypool. “We have had short production during the last three years,” he said, “which has influenced farmers to plant more tomatoes. Indiana probably will have between 100,000 and 125,000 acres in tomatoes this year. Late Spring Discounted “This brings a danger of surplus, lower prices and a scrambling for business in our industry. The late spring may have little effect on the output. Planting time is still two weeks away, but if it warms up enough to allow farmers to prepare their land, we can look for a big crop.” Association members, he said, are planning an extensive advertising campaign. In a report to be submitted by William Switzer, Bargersviile, advertising committee chairman, arrangements for a co-opera-tive mat service are outlined. Canners have been invited to submit slogans for the proposed campaign. Members are expected to outline plans for closer co-operation with stale officials on stream polution problems,” Mr. Rider said. OPPOSITION TO OXNAM WITHDRAWN BY POST Marion Legion Assured He Will Address Alumni Only, By United Press MARION, Ind., April 23.—Objection to an address by Dr. G. Bromley Oxnam, De Pauw University president, before De Pauw alumni tomorrow night, were withdrawn today by Bryon Thornburg Post No. 10 of the American Legion. The Legion withdrew its protest when assured that Dr. Oxnam would address only former De Pauw University students and that no high school pupils would be present. Veterans organizations have charged that Dr. Oxnam has shown too liberal tendencies. BOOTLEG SUSPECTHELD Richmond Man Remanded to Jail in Default of Bond. James Day, 29, Richmond, was remanded to jail today by United States Commissioner Howard S. Young in default of SIOOO bond imposed after being charged with violating the 1935 beverage act. Officers who arrested Day Monday near Richmond say he had 10 gallons of untaxed alcohol in his possession.

Guy M. Wilson, Grayling, Mich., and William E. Cole, Columbus, Fifth Corps area commander. Maj.-Gen. Johnson Hagood, recently reinstated after a presidential suspension early this year, has been named to command the Second Army and is to be in direct charge of the war games. He will be the only important officer not attending the meeting. The troop movements, largest since the World War, are to be carried out on two fronts—Fort Knox, Ky., and Grayling, Mich. They are to serve as important tests in the speed of mobilization and movement of troops against an allmechanized force, the First Mechanized Cavalry, Fort Knox. Gen. Tyndall said that arrangements were being made for participation of the newly centralized unit of the army air force, the G. H. Q. squadron. This squadron and those from the guard units are to be stationed at Bowman Field, Ky., during the period, Aug. 1 to 15.
