LOCAL GROCERS PREPARING FOR STATE SESSION Convention to Open Sunday for 3-Day Session at Evansville. Indianapolis grocers and meat dealers today prepared to attend the annual Indiana Retail Grocers and Meat Dealers convention, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday in Evansville. Congressman Wright Patman, co•lutnor ox the Robinson-Patman bill, is to speak at the convention, and Jack Dempsey, former world’s heavyweight boxing champion is to greet delegates, according to convention officials. Registration, opening of food exhibits, golf, and a reception for association officers are planned for opening day. Business sessions are scheduled Monday and Tuesday. Women are to be taken on a shopping visit and a tour of factories Monday with a cruise on the Ohio River in the afternoon and an excursion and dance at night on board the steamer Washington. Tuesday afternoon the women are to tour Kentucky by bus. A banquet Tuesday night, with P. Harold Van Orman, former lieutenant governor, as toastmaster and Mr. Patman as speaker is to conclude the convention. PROTECTION OF FROGS URGED BY SPORTSMEN State Conservation Committee to Consider Recommendation. Establishment of a closed season and bag limit on frogs has been recommended to the State Conservation Department by a group of Southern Indiana residents, Virgil M. Simmons, state conservation commissioner, said today. The same protection for frogs now given game fish, birds and animals is necessary to p*v.>yent extinction, the group con'<*nds. The proposal is to be placed before the State Conservation Committee, representing more than 600 conservation clubs, Mr. Simmons said. EMPLOYE, FIRED, SUES TERRE HAUTE MAYOR Deposed Crematory Head Seeks Mandatory Injunction. Timra Special TERRE HAUTE, Ind., April 23. Mayor Sam Beecher and the City of Terre Haute have been named defendants in a mandatory injunction suit filed in Vigo Superior Court by Charles P. McCool, deposed superintendent of the city crematory. McCool charges his dismissal was due to his failure to support the candidacy of Ed Snyder, Beecher’s nephew, for the Republican nomination for prosecuting attorney. BLUE KEY TO PLEDGE 10 Butler U. Juniors to Be Honored Monday Night. Ten Butler University juniors are to be pledged to Blue Key, ranking senior honorary for men, at ceremonies Monday night, Everett Kalb, president, announced today. Phillips, La Porte First Methodist Church pastor for the last six years, has been called to the Centenary Methodist Church at Terre Haute, It was learned today. He will succeed the Rev. George E. Francis. The appointment is to be made at the Battle Ground conference in June.
