It showed up the fact that many telegrams of approval he got for leading the antiadministration fight against the utilities holding bill were phoney and also that he was one of six congressmen living with a utility lobbyist here. Pettengill Explains Opposition Mr. Pettengill explained that his opposition was to the seizure of telegrams, which he thought was against “freedom of the press.” Besides Mr. Ludlow, Reps. Griswold. Halleck and Crowe also voted against the appropriation. Reps. Greenwood, Schulte and Gray voted for the appropriation. Rep. John W. Boehne Jr., voted “present,” being paired against it, as was Rep William H. Larrabee, who was back in Indiana when the vote was taken. Mrs. Virginia Jenckes also has been in Indiana for several weeks fixing Sixth District fences for her renomination.
