BIDDLE NAMED TO NEW POST AT INDIANA U. Union Building Director Is Selected Controller at State School. By Un itrtl Prr*n BLOOMINGTON, Ind„ April 10. —Ward G. Biddle, director of the Indiana and manager of the University book store, has been appointed to the newly created position of controller of Indiana University, President William Lowe Bryan announced today. He was graduated from Indiana in 1916 and for seven years afterward he engaged in the banking business at Pendleton, Anderson and Middletown. In 1923 he was named manager of the University book store, succeeding N. O. Pittenger, who resigned to accept a position at Swarthmore College. He became director of the new Union Building when it was opened in 1932. He will retain both positions at present. U. H. Smith will continue as university treasurer, a position he has held since 1899. In announcing the new position, the board of trustees pointed out that the university has grown beyond the capacity of the business office organized years ago. Total current assets of the university are listed at more than $14,000,000.
OFFICIALS RUSH WORK ON BUDGET ESTIMATES City Controller Sets Deadline for Requisitions as June 1. Heads of all city departments today increased their speed in the preparation of requests for 1937 appropriations following an order issued yesterday by Walter C. Boetcher, city controller, that requisitions must be in his office by June 1, instead of August 1, as has been the custom. If present plans work out, the city is to ask the county for a larger appropriation next year as Mayor Kern is expected to seek at least a partial restoration of the 15 per cent cut in police and firemen's salaries. He also is expected to urge that a special allotment for track elevation be placed in the budget for the purpose of carrying out such projects. The city's tax share now is $1.13.
