IMPORT FOLK TO DON PIONEER DRESS JULY 4 Park With Lincoln Village and Lake Is to Be Dedicated. Timm Sprrial ROCKPORT, Ind., April 10.— Dedication of a new lake, a community recreation center and four cabins in Lincoln pioneer village will feature ‘‘the Lincoln country summer festival” here July 4. The celebration is sponsored by the Spencer County Historical Society. WPA labor is being used to prrpare the project. The four-acre lake will contain an artificial island, 200 feet in diameter, which will be the site of a shelter house, dressing rooms, a Girl Scout cabin and a reproduction of an old corn mill complete with water wheel. In addition, a reproduction of the flatboat on which Lincoln journeyed to New Orlean in 1828 is being built. Statues of the Emancipator and Allen Gentry, who ipade the trip with him, are to be placed on the boat. The four cabins are to include the five-room log home of Daniel Grass, Spencer County’s first settler and a member of the Indiana constitutional convention; the old Pigeon Baptist Church at Lincoln City, and two cabins in which the Lincoln family lived in Indiana for 14 years. During the celebration the village Is to be populated with characters dressed in the style of the cabin’s original occupants. CRAWFORDSVILLE TO DISREGARD ORDINANCE City to Hold Law in Abeyance Pending Hearing. The city of Crawfordsville today agreed to hold in abeyance its ordinance prohibiting the parking of vehicles peddling commodities until April 23, when Federal Judge Robert C. Baltzell is to hear evidence in Injunction proceedings against the ordinance. The National Baking Cos. today charged that the ordinance was discriminatory and that its drivers were the only one arrested under the regulation. City officials told Judge Baltzell that the baking firm's drivers would not be arrested on charges of violating the ordinance pending the hearing here.
CITY GIRL, 10, IS DEAD: HURT IN TRUCK MISHAP Dorothy Strohmeyer Is ThirtyNinth Marion County Victim. Funeral services were to be arranged today for Dorothy Strohmeycr, 10, daughter of Mr. anu Mrs. Albert Strohmeyer, 1128 Ba-con-st, who died last night of automobile injuries. Her death at City Hospital of Injuries received March 25 was the thirty-ninth auto fatality in Marion County since Jan. 1. The handle of a door of a truck driven by Clarence Fainter, 49, Greenwood, struck the child on the head as she ran against the moving vehicle, according to police.

April 10.—Organized labor’s drive to re-elect President Roosevelt was launched today in four pivotal industrial states. The campaign to line up votes lor the New Deal will be under the direction of the newly formed Labor’s Non-Partisan League and was opened by Sidney Hillman, president of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers. last night. Present activities will be centered in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois and New York. The league is backed by a group of unions affiliated with the American Federation of Labor. Lands on Shed; Loses Teeth. li )/ Vnilrd Prrts CINCINNATI. 0., April 10.—Joseph Hurst, Lawrenceburg, Ind., laborer, lisped through broken teeth today the unusual story of how it feels to fall 60 feet and live to tell about it. Hurst was being hoisted to the top of an 80-foot smokestack to make some repairs when the block and tackle pulled loose 20 feet from the top. Hurst arched through the air and landed on top of a low shed. His only injuries were a few bruises, a leg wound and loss of several teeth. SENATE HEARS RITTER DEFENSE TESTIMONY Witnesses for Accused Jurist Called to Testify Today. Bn l ulled I‘rcgg WASHINGTON, April 10.—Defense witnesses were called today in the Senate impeachment trial of Federal Judge Halsted L. Ritter, charged with “high crimes” and misdemeanors in office. House managers who completed prosecution evidence late yesterday, hope to conclude the case next week. Defense counsel indicated their evidence probably would be concluded by Monday. Final arguments may be completed by Wednesday and a decision rendered by the 96 Senators sitting as “judges” late in the week. SOCIETY TO GIVE DANCE Schwabenverein to Stage Easter Ball Tomorrow. The Indianapolis Schwabenverein (Swabia Society) is to stage its annual Easter ball tomorrow night at the Liederkranz Hall, 1417 E. Washington-st. Fritz Wetzel is president of the society and John Koch is in charge of the dance. Willy Blumhardt’s orchestra is to play, and several specialty and comedy numbers are to be presented by Paul Tlrnu.

P. is at least one up in possession of a bona fide brain trust generalissimo in Dr. Olin Glenn Saxon, A. B. Harvard. T 4. LL.D., ’l7. and honorary M. A. Yale. '3l. The New Deal brain trust has been minus a full general since Prof. Raymond Moley resigned to run a hotel and a magazine. Half a dozen professors of economics, public finance and sociology are enlisted in Dr. Saxon s research division of the Republican National Committee. The Republican brain trust has been set up to analyze three years of the New Deal and, in the words of Dr. Saxon, to expose its “fallacies.”
STATE POLICE MOVE QUARTERS Police Unit to Be Built Near Valparaiso, Officials Say. Removal of the State Police barracks at Michigan City and the state police radio station at Culver to Valparaiso will be made soon, officials of the State Safety Department have announced. Under the present plans, a modern barracks is to be erected at the intersection of U. S. Rroad 30 and State Road 2 east of Valparaiso. The building also to be quarters for the Northwestern Indiana radio unit. Previously, plans had been made to construct a radio station-barracks at Michigan City, but a survey of the soil in the vicinity of Lake Michigan revealed that it was not adaptable to underground radio equipment. The Culver station now is in quarters given the state by Culver Military Academy. State officials said the present location has proven ‘unusually satisfactory” but that the unit should be located farther to the northwest.
FURTHER INFLATION IS DUE, RANKER SAYS Local Optimist Club Hears Case Edwards. A prediction that the full force of inflation will be felt in the United States within 10 years was voiced today by Case Edwards, New York banker, in an address to Optimist Club members at their weekly luncheon in the Columbia Club. Specking on “How to Hedge Against Inflation,” Mr. Edwards dealt with the history of and reasons for inflation, discussed the present situation, and gave a nottoo optimistic picture of the future. “The present situation is a direct aftermath of the World War, and in my opinion we are due for much further inflation within the next 10 years,” Mr. Edwards said. He was introduced by Clarence Robinson. Nine directors of the club were to be elected following the luncheon. UNION LEADER CRITICAL OF OVERTIME CLAUSE Real Silk Provisions Held Not Necessary by Truman. Criticism of an overtime agreement between the Real Silk Hosiery Mills and the Workers’ Co-opera-tive Union as announced in the Real Silk Worker was voiced today by Walter Truman, district manager. American Federation of Hosiery Workers. “Overtime is not needed in the hosiery industry,” Mr. Truman said, "as the manufacturers are producing more hosiery than the genera! public now consumes.” Branch 35 of the American Federation of Hosiery Workers is to meet at 10:30 tomorrow morning in Castle Hall.
