The Comforts of Apartment Life BY MARY E. MOLLOY, Chairman Publicity Committee Apt. Owners’ Assn. I have been in the rental business for several years and live in an apartment myself. For the business woman, married or single, it is the ideal way to live. If you are employed all day. you don’t like the idea of coming home to a cold house in the evening—or getting up in one in the morning. Your apartment is arranged to utilize every bit of spare, therefore making housekeeping easy for the woman who does her own work. There is also the luxury of the Frigidaire and even in apartments where you buy your own ice, there is the convenient service closet where the ice and groceries can be delivered without having to enter your apartment. Then there is the economical side of it. You take a moderate priced house, add the bills for fuel, utilities, and in some instances water, and you will find that over a period of a year you have saved mone? by living in an apartment. One objection I hear raised so often is—"it is so hot in summer." Well, have you ever figured that there are really only two months in the whole year when the weather is uncomfortably hot? From experience, I would say that you are uncomfortable anywhere then. In most apartments w'here the electricity <s included in your rent you have tue luxury of the Electric Fan without any additional cost and even where you pay for the electric current, the cost is so low' that it certainly does not warrant, moving during the summer months. For the married woman who stays home but who has many outside interests social and otherwise it gives her more time to devote to these interests. In the spring her heavy housecleaning is all taken care of without any additional cost. If the people who occupy apartments only during the winter months would stop a minute and count the cost of moving twice a year, I think they would find that it is anything but economical, to say nothing of the inconvenience and discomfort of it.
