The Why of Apartment House Week /?/ Isidor Feiblemav, President Apartment Owners’ Association In the holiday celebration of an ancient faith, at this season of the year, the youngest child in the company assembled around the festal board inquires, "Why is this night distinguished from all other nights?’’ In like manner, those of inquiring mind may ask, "Why an Apartment Week and, particularly, why now?’’ The two-fold query is pertinent and merits reply. This is the second observance of Apartment Week, inaugurated last spring by the Apartment Owners Association, at the instance of the city newspapers in general and The Times in particular. It is designed to make residents of Indianapolis apartment-minded, cause them to realize the advantages and pleasure of living in apartments. It shows them how the housekeeping is solved, how heat, light, gas, water, as a rule, are included in the rent, without the bother of separate payment. It gives ocular evidence of compact yet comfortable living, free from many of the annoyances that are the lot of dwellers in houses. As to why now, "The year’s at the spring." Vacation thoughts begin to stir. In the past, there has been much moving out of apartments in spring and summer. Desirable houses are scarcer and there will not be the general exodus this year from flats, as heretofore. Those who are wise will realize the wisdom of staying where they are happily located, and leaving well enough alone, lest a return in the fall prove impossible, as they meet everywhere the "No Vacancies’’ sign. To be sure, there will be some removals, and those inspecting and viewing now may put their names on a waiting list and be the early birds and obtain the coveted choicer morsels, to-wit, the best available apartments. It is true today, as when I stated it last year: The law of supply and demand has not been repealed. The demand for apartments is increasing, the supply has remained stationary. A word to the wise is sufficient. Verbum sap. And the moral is don’t be a "sap.” So come looking through the apartments on. oarade and see for yourselves how delightful they are in which to live and join, if jmu can, the apartment colony.
