‘MAROTT NIGHT’ TO BE CELEBRATED AT A. B. C. TOURNEY

Shoe Quintet Carded to Go After Maples Veteran Local Sportsman Has Backed Team for Many Years. FT BERNARD HARMON The Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, American Bowling Congress officials and members of the city’s tenpin fraternity are to Join hands tonight to pay tribute to George J. Marott, local business man and sports enthusiast, who for the past 26 years has sponsored teams in the annual tournament of the Bowling Congress. Festivities are scheduled to open at the Marott Hotel, where the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a dinner in honor of Mr. Marott. Representatives of several shoe manufacturing firms, local business men, and local and national bowling officials are to be present at the dinner. George Olive, Chamber of Commerce president, is to preside. Among the speakers on the program is Robert T. (Bob) Bryson, past president and lifetime member of the American Bowling Congress, and formerly postmaster of Indianapolis. Following the dinner, those present are to move to the Fairground Coliseum, site of this year's A. B. C. tournament, where additional ceremonies are to be staged. On alleys 23 and 24 at 10:15 the 1936 representatives of the Marott Shoe Store will go into action. Mr. Marott and his party are to occupy boxes behind this pair of alleys.

Other Stars on Program Sharing the spotlight on the evening's program are to be several of the nation’s outstanding quintets. On the 8:15 squad Potter’s Shoes of Cincinnati, which includes in its lineup former A. B. C. champions, Hugh Stewart and Eddie Votel, who will try their luck on alleys 17 and 18. A quartet of famed teams will vie with the Marott five for honors on the 10:15 squad. Grace Construction and Centlivre Beer, two crack aggregations from Fort Wayne, are included in the teams carded to fire at the maples at this time. The former is to have in its lineup Everett Scott, the famed “iron man’’ of baseball, who played 1307 consecutive games while a member of the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankee teams. He is to roll on alleys 25 and 26. American Legion of Middletown Is another five of championship caliber, for numbered as one of its members is Howard Sanders, another former A. B. C. champion. Falls City Brewers from Louisville will also bear watching for they have been going big during the regular season and come here rated as one of the best in the “hoss race’’ community. Local Tinmen Go Big Yesterday’s daylight sessions brought about five changes in the standings of the top 10 of the doubles, singles and all-events, and Indianapolis pastimers figured in three of the changes. The two-man combination of Bobby Wilmoth and Joe Rea took tenth place in the doubles standings when they totaled 1280. Wilmoth was the powerhouse of the duo, cracking out a 694 through games of 254, 205 and 235. Rea garnered 586 in his three games. Walter Buhr of Chicago fired a 701 in his singles appearance and the total gained him sixth position in the individual standings. He had games of 232, 214 and 255. Milt Wimberly, a member of the local Bowes Seal Fast aggregation, found the range as he fired his individual series, tossing games of 246, 248 and 196 for a 690 total and ninth place in the standings. Buhr’s brilliant singles total, combined with his 551 team series and 682 doubles contribution, netted him a 1934, which landed him in fourth place in the all-events standings. Walt Heckman, local bowling scribe, went into eighth in. the all-events with a 1901 for his nine tourney games. He totaled 619 with the Marmon-Herrington team, collected 657 in his doubles appearance and wound up with an individual count of 625. Team Scoring Unimpressive . The 64 teams that tried their luck on the tourney maples last night failed to register a total that would place them among the leading ten. Paris Cleaners outscored all aggregations in action on the first squad, when they tapped the pins for games of 870, 993 and 952 for a 2815 total. Carnegie Pilsner of Clairto'vn. Pa., registered a 2794, w'hile the touted Hamburger Inns of Richmond, Ind., tallied 2792 in their three games. Schamberger Schlitz of Chicago took the scoring honors of the 10:15 bowlers, games of 926. 1006 and 942 giving it a 2874. Miller High Life of Beloit, Wis„ put on a 1086 finish to total 2818. which was good for runnerup honors. P. J. Westers of Chicago and Roger Shermans of New Haven, Conn., were other high scorers. The former posted a 2806 and the Easterners a 2803. The quintet of Indianapolis entrants failed to hit their stride and the Universal Beverage's 2693 proved the top local count. Underwood Transfer totaled 2531; Gulling Auto Electric, 2553; City Market, 2566, and Acetylene Products Cos., 2511.

Newlin Crashes 702 on Uptown Drives Myron Newlin is anew member of the season’s 700 club. In last night’s appearance in the Uptown Recreation League he smacked the maples for games of 278, 221 and 203—a 702. Other high individualists of local loops were Dad” Hanna with a 691 and Frank Liehtag with 669, both members of the Indianapolis League. Team honors went to Lleber Brewers, also of the Indianapolis circuit. On games of 952, 1029 and 1010 they totaled 2991. STRAIGHTEN UP Correct Your Posture! SHOULDER BRACES HAAG'S
