NEW LEADERS CLIMB TO TOP IN THREE A. B. C. DIVISIONS

Blue Ribbon Rolls to Top of Standing Cracks 3065 in 5-Man Event; All Leaders Are Shaken. BY BERNARD HARMON New names today topped the lists it standings in three divisions of -he American Bowling Congress tournament in progress at the State Fairground Coliseum. The most devastating attacks of the tourney were launched by pastimers in action yesterday. Rated as one of the top teams of the East, Pabst Blue Ribbons of New York proved their ability at mowing down the maples by stacking up a total of 3065 that gained them the lead in the five-man event. With games of 1026 and 045 behind them, the team from Manhattan unleashed strike after strike in the final tilt to emerge with a 1094 that elevated them to the pinnacle. Tom Mahoney, leadofT man, set the pace for the new leaders when he cracked the pins for a sizzling 679 through games of 220, 217 and 242. Tony Sparando and Eddie Heinemnn also passed the 600 mark in their three games, the former collecting a 649 and Heineman a 642. Jack Wilday and Johnny Schweitzer, the remaining members of the quintet tossed series of 552 and 543. Milwaukee Team Third Another Pabst team, rolling on the 10 o’clock shift, also found the tourney maples to their liking and pounded out a 2971 that gave them third place in the team standings. This quintet hailed from Milwaukee and was captained by the famed Frank Benkovic, who along with another Midwest star, Charlie Daw, tossed the leading totals for the Beertown aggregation. Benkovic, with games of 222, 214 and 226, totaled 662, while Daw reached 624 with games of 202, 201 and 221. Indianapolis received its only representation among the standings of the top ten of the four divisions or the tourmy when Herman Bohne and Jerry O’Grady combined series of 674 and 329 for 1303 total that put them in first place in the doubles event. Bohne collected his bulging total through counts of 234, 217 and 223 while O’Grady’s series was the result of games of 182, 213 and 234. Youth Tops Individuals Charles Warren of Springfield. 111., one of the youngest pastimers to ever hold a first place in the big indoor classic, topped the singles division as yesterday’s hostilities ceased. The youth, who is but 20 years of age, amassed games of 276, 245 and 214 for a total of 735, which is two pins higher than last year's winning total at Syracuse. The alltime record in the individual events was set by Larry Shotwell of Covington. Ky., who totaled 774 in the 1930 meet. Other sharpshooters in action on other squads of minor event entrants failed to collect “top ten” totals. Although the trio of new leaders are seemingly well entrenched in their top positions, today's program calls for the appearance of a gathering of stars that are capable of crashing the “big ten” in event they show the class that has elevated them to the front ranks of the pin game. Mort Lindsey and Ray Nolan of New York City, Frank Benkovic and Charley Daw of Milwaukee and a galaxy of other crack kegolers are scheduled to roll their doubles and singles events on today's daylight program. Tonight’s two squads of five-man entrants, carded to appear at 8:45 and 10:45, will also find some of the nation’s best in action. A name familiar to persons who have followed the annual Congress classics for any length of time will appear on the scoreboard of alley 28 on the 8:45 shift. It is v.he Cabanne team of St. Louis, which has been entered over a longer span of years than any other aggregation. Wadham Oils of Milwaukee, featuring Ned Day, the flashy match game bowler, is scheduled on alley 7 on the same shift. Mort Luby's National Bowlers Journal from Chicago, Johnny Bauers’ B. P. A.'s of Detroit and Markson Furniture of Syracuse, N. Y., are outstanding fivesomes ready for action on the 10:45 shift.

Tourney grams By Harmon A PACKED house greeted some of the best teams in the East as they stepped to their respective alleys on the 8 o'clock squad. . . . Tudor Recreation of New York, featuring Ray Nolan, one of the best on the Atlantic sea -coast, was one of the peppiest aggregations on the alleys. They were neat appearing in their light blue shirts. . . . Bill Landgraf, the New York bowling dynamo, left up the 1-3 with a 7-pin hit in his last game. . . . The Buffalo fowling Association Officers and cchellerman Shoes, of the same city, wore the popular black shirts. outl J. B. GARITY American Legion Post of Brooklyn wore shirts with black collars and cuffs. . . . The first place Pabst Blue Ribbons of New York wore white shirts t.nd trousers. . . . Mort Lindsey and his Radio City Five were clad in nifty yellow shirts with red lettering. . . . Schenley's Products of Butte, Mont., wore gray shirts. . . . Treasurer Prank Pasdeloup of the American Bowling Congress was in action with the Laemmer Old Timers of Chicago. George Bangart, who has rolled in every one of the 36 annual tournaments, was anchor man on the team.
