ELECTRIC MAP TO AID POLICE TRAP OUTLAWS Outline of State Roads to Show Positions of Pursuing Cars. A huge, electrically lighted map af Indiana is to be the “eyes" of tb idnte police as they follow criminal trails, Capt. Matt Leach announced today. The map is to be placed in the radio dispatcher's office at the Statehouse headquarters. It is to be used in directing police car activity while pursuing or blocking roads. Still being constructed, it so large that a tall stepladder is needed to reach the top, the captain said. The map is to be dotted with small lights along all highways of the state. Red lights are to designate state cars, with yellow lights marking other law enforcement cars, such as those of sheriffs and city police, he said. Lights to Aid Dispatcher The lights are to be controlled from a switchboard on the dispatcher’s desk. As police cars go into the dispatcher will press a button for each unit. A glance at the lights will tell where each car is located and where additional strength is needed, Capt. Leach explained. The map used now requires colored push-pins. This calls for the work of two men to operate a fast jr.an-hunt, one man for the telephone to receive the calls from the cars as they get into position or are dispatched, and the other to work the map, the police official said. It, is expected the map will be in operation in 90 days. STATE TELLS HOW TO PLANT FOREST TREES Bonklrt for Farmers, Landowners Now Ready for Distribution.
