EMPLOYERS AIR JOB INSURANCE LAW PRORLEMS Wholesalers Foresee Need of Installing New Record Systems. Wholesalers today pondered the following problems raised at a meeting last night in the Chamber of Commerce at which Indiana's new unemployment insurance law was discussed. Will an employer have to install anew recording system to keep track of the number of houro j worked by each employe each week and of the amount of wages paid, particularly when employes are not working on an hourly basis? How can the unemployment insurance tax be collected from employers of other states who have employes living in Indiana? Will taxes, paid be refunded if the law is declared unconstitutional? Can chain store or chain filling station operators avoid the tax by ; leasing out stores or stations to individuals or bv Incorporating each store or station as a separate busi- j ness? Question Officers’ Status Do firms with seven employes and two or three partners come under the law? Must the tax be paid on casual or part-time employes of employers! who have eight or more regular em- ! ployes? Are officers of a corporation considered employes? Virgil E. Sheppard, governmental research director, gave unofficial answers to some of the questions. Officers of a corporation are considered employes, he said, but partners in a business are not. Taxes must be paid on part-time or casual employes, he stated, and unused funds in the employers’ accounts will be returned if the law is held unconstitutional. Memoranda of conditions peculiar to certain wholesalers were written. They are to be submitted to the State Unemployment Compensation Board for decision. Charles H. Bradley, rhairman of the wholesalers’ committee of the Chamber of Commerce, presided. William H. Book, executive vice president, also answered questions. A similar study group is scheduled for retailers at 7:15 Monday night in the chamber. A manufacturers’ meeting is to be held later. CCC CAMPS INSPECTED Fifth Corps Area Chief Pays Visit lo Fort Harrison. Several Civilian Conservation j Corps camps in the state were to s be inspected today by Ma.j. Gen. William E. Cole. Fifth Corps area commander, with headquarters at Fort Hayes. O. The inspection tour was opened here yesterday when he and his aid, Capt. J. Foxhall Sturman, visited Fort Benjamin Harrison.
