FLOODLIGHT AT AIRPORT AID IN NIGHT LANDING
38,000,000 Candle-Power Apparatus Removes Much Danger A 38.000,000 candle-power floodlight that illuminates the entire Municipal Airport has proved to be a great aid to air navigation, Nish Dienhart, superintendent, reported today. This beacon, located on headquarters roof, has been put through tests under all kinds of weather conditions. It has made normal night landings possible under most ceiling conditioas. Shaped like a giant kettle drum, this lamp has a shadow bar six inches wide which can oe moved across its face. Prevents Blinding of Pilots Tills is adjusted, Mr. Dienhart explained, to throw a 75-foot shadow on Incoming ships, preventing the blinding of pilots attempting to land. Mr. Dienhart had the experience of flying ln.o that light when returning from South Bend several years ago. His own navigation lights had gone out on his plane, and while the port attendant heard the ship, he couldn’t see it. By putting his hat over his face and gliding, Mr. Dienhart finally made a landing, but he was temporarily blinded. The attendant, a npw man, never made the same mistake again, Mr. Dienhart said. He should have noted the wind direction, and then adjusted the beam in one place. VETERANS TO SPONSOR RALLY FOR GREENLEE State-Wide Meeting to Be Held Tonight in Tomlinson Hall. Bronchial Coughs Need Creomulsion
A cough, chest cold or bronchial irritation today may lead to serious trouble tomorrow. You can relieve them now with Creomulsion, an emulsified Creosote that is pleasant to take. Creomulsion is a medical discovery that aids nature to soothe and heal the infected membranes and to relieve the irritation and inflammation as the germ-laden phlegm is loosened and expelled. Medical authorities have for many years recognized the wonderful effects of Beechwood Creosote for treating coughs, chest colds and bronchial irritations. A chemist worked out a special process of blending Creosote with other ingredients so that now in Creomulsion you get a real dose of Beechwood Creosote which is palatable

0. K. EXPECTED ON HARBOR JOB WESTOF GARY Army Engineers to Report Favorably, Halleck Believes. By United Prr*g WASHINGTON. March 19.—Rep. Charles A. Halleck iR., Ind.) said today that he expected a favorable report on the $3,500,000 Burns Ditch harbor project in Indiana within the next ‘’three or four weeks” by the War Department engineers. Rep. Halleck’s statement followed testimony Monday before the board of army engineers by a group of high Indiana officials, who urged it as the only ‘‘public harbor” project in Indiana on Lake Michigan. Rep. Halleck said he intended to press for action on the project but that he doubted that there would be sufficient time to get funds appropriated by Congress before adjournment, even if the project is approved by Army engineers. It Ls a Meritorious Undertaking “I feel certain that every Indiana Congressman is behind this thing,” he said. “It is a meritorious undertaking that will result in tremendous industrial development if approved.” Among those, in addition to Halleck, who have urged the Army engineers to take a favorable view are Gov. McNutt, Senator Sherman Minton and Rep. William T. Schulte (D., Ind.). “There is no doubt that the state and private industry demand a public harbor on Lake Michigan.” Rep. Halleck said. “The only harbor, which is privately owned by the United States Steel Corp., in Indiana on Lake Michigan is at Gary. Site Two Miles West of Gary The harbor would be created by building a breakwater in the lake

and digging back the so-called Bums Ditch 1500 feet. The project would be two miles west of Gary in Porter County, which Rep. Halleck represents. He said that he intended within the next few days to file supplementary data with the engineers to “establish the public interest and faith in the project” by the public. Midwest Steel Cos., Rep. Halleck said, has promised to build a steel finishing plant employing 1200 men if the project is approved and has agreed to give enough land for public terminal and dock facilities. He said the company would sell sufficient land to non-speculative enterprises in the interest of industrial development at its original cost price. Truck Lines Could Save Money He said that truck lines operating from the South could use barges to transport their cargoes into Chicago from the 1: arbor, thus avoiding expense of traveling through greatly congested traffic areas outside cf Chicago. “I think the hearings before the Army engineers certainlv indicated a favorable attitude toward the harbor,” Rep. Halleck said. He added that its proponents felt that it would be achisable to get the Federal funds in the regular manner through a straight rivers and harbors appropriation, but that they would take it as a “WPA or PWA project if necessary.” FOR ME FTTRUSTEE IS PAROLED BY BOARD Eric Lund, Convicted of Falsifying Claims, to Live in West. Eric Lund. 73, former trustee of North Township, Lake County, serving a 2-14 year term in the State Prison on charges of falsifying claims, has been paroled by the State Clemency Commission. Leniency was recommended after Lund asVed to go to California to spend the remainder of his life with a son, and members of the jury which convicted him in 1929 gave their approval. He entered the prison to begin serving the sentence Dec. 21, 1934, after losing an appeal to the State Supreme Court.

McNutt as keynoter and temporary chairman for the Philadelphia convention. Circulated by Rep. Eugene Crowe, the petition Ls addressed to National Democratic Chairman Farley and members of the arrangements committee. Mr. Crowe also sent a copy to President Roosevelt with a note urging that he likewise boost the Hoosier Governor for the keynote address. This suggestion was made to the President by Senator Sherman Minton, in person, earlier this week. The Crowe petition sets out that Gov. McNutt is thQ “best qualified man in public life today to deliver this address.” Attention is called to McNutt’s career and it is pointed out that “as Governor of Indiana, he ranks at the top.” It closes: “He is striking, has poise and dignity and his eloquence and sound logic would inspire the nation.”
