Bochlielt, St. LouU 1850 BY BERNARD HARMON Four booster squads of 32 teams each are scheduled to go into action on the State Fairground Coliseum alleys today as the thirty-sixth annual American Bowling Congress continues into its second week. Sixteen Indianapolis Taxicab Association teams along with the remaining 16 quintets representing the Indianapolis Hotel Association are to open the day’s program at 3:45 this afternoon. At 6:30 a full squad of 32 teams representing various local stores and industries are to try their luck at the maples. Fivesomes from the L. S. Ayres & Cos. and Inter-Club Leagues will take over the drives at 8:30, while several local teams along with quintets from Seymour, Bedford, Crawfordsville, El wood, Goodland, Kokomo and Windfall are to monopolize the alley at 10:30. Locals Take Second Place Leaders of all events of the big classic withstood the assaults of hundreds of pinmen performing on yesterday’s squads. A local booster team, the Ready Mixed Concretes, however, threatened to take the lead in the five-man event, when it. hung up a 2883 total, the best A. B. C. series rolled by an Indianapolis team since the Chicago tournament of 1929. The Concretes, who roll in the Community League at the Uptown Alleys, opened with a 1000, dropped to 882, and then amid an avalanche of strikes and with an early-morning crowd pulling for them, posted a 1001 to go into second place. The aggregation needed 14 additional pins to nab the lead from the Secord Drugs of Chicago, who are perched at the top. Earl Fegan’s 669 set the pace for the local quintet. Four duos connected for series that landed them among the top ten of the two-man standings. L. Bergman and A. Kiehn of Chicago put totals of 653 and 591 together for a 1244 that was good for second place. Another Windy City pair. W. Liepe and G. Lund, landed in fifth place with a 1227. Liepe totaled 629 and Lund 598. L. Dean and H. Thompson of Lakewood, 0.. and S. Noll and W. Kostis of Cleveland took ninth and tenth on totals of 1203 and 1202. Parent Rolls 666 Series B. Parent of Lakewood combed the alleys for games of 249. 214 and 203, a 666 total that boosted him into a tie for third and fourth places of the individual standings. Six sticks behind in fifth place was A. Fakel. Lakewood, who turned in games of 235, 203 and 222 in one of the matinee sessions. T. Ebert of Chicago was the only other pastimer to crash the “big ten.” He used games of 201. 255 and 198 for a 654 that was good for seventh place. Fakel's 660, combined with his ir. the team events and his doubles series of 592 gave him an 1802 total and sixth place in the all-events. Close on his heels in seventh place was F. Sasak with a 1772 over the nine-game route. He had series of 594, 558 and 663 to nab the position. Amid the beating of drums and blasts of bugles, teams of the Service Club and Indiana Bell Telephone Cos. marched to their respective alleys to vie for honors on the 6:45 squad last night. Shortly after, Frank Hueber. former Indianapolis pin aee, led 32 teams from Columbus. Ind.. into the exposition building and immediately groomed them for their attack on the maples scheduled at 8:45. Music Rings Through Coliseum The 25-piece band that accompanied the delegation, marched at the head of the 160 bowlers as they stepped across the approach to the alleys. Most of the teams were clad in uniforms of bright hues, and a warm ovation was rendered them from the capacity crowd that was on hand Hueber called his pin snipers to the center of the alleys and introduced Neil C. King, sixth vice president of the American Bowling Congress. “Yesterday we had a team here from Pipua, 0., said King, “and they claimed their town was the biggest little city in the country. However, after looking over your delegation, I give my vote to Columbus for that honor.” King then introduced Elmer H. Baumgarten, secretary of the A. B. C. The tourney official told the waiting pinmen that statistics showed that Columbus had one bowler for every 56 “.ale residents, whereas Chicago nad but one for every 5000.

One of the 32 teams slated to face the A. B. C. tournament maples on the 6:30 shift Thursday night is the Linton Radio quintet, leaders of the local Parkway Recreation No. 2 League.
