COUNTY FILIN6S SHOW SCARCITY OF G.O.P. NAMES
Party Fights, Low Campaign Chest Are Cited as Reason. BY CARL THORBAHN With only one Republican candidate filed for a major county office, political observers today sought X ie reason for this apparent dearth of O. O. P. campaign projects. One reason advanced is that Republican factions do not wish to commit themselves until opposition factions are on record with their candidates. The inner-party fight between young and liberal Republicans with G. O. P. “die hards” is suggested as a reason for the reluctance of party members to file. Say Funds Lacking Other observers say that prospective Republican candidates are without funds to finance a successful campaign against well-organ-ized Democratic opposition. Campaign contributions are going, as usual, to the party in power, and the Republicans are having difficulty soliciting funds, it is said. Precinct committeemen candidates continue to file in large numbers from both major parties. Although no delegate candidates to the state conventions have filed, it is believed most of them will go on record shortly after adjournment of the Legislature, providing it does not run the full 41 days. Files for Prosecutor Thomas McNulty, candidate for prosecutor, is the only Republican to file. Four Democrats have entered their names, and it is believed most of the others will flic within the next 10 days. Three incumbents, Prosecutor Herbert M. Spencer, Treasurer Frank E. McKinney and Surveyor Herbert Bloemker have filed. Deputy Coroner John E. Wyttenbach has filed for coroner. FIRE HOUSE TERMITES ARE DOOMED TO DEATH Health Board Clerk Is Assigned Task of Killing Insects. The termites, which have slowly been eating many of the city’s fire stations, soon are to meet violent deaths, George Taylor, Health Board cl?rk, promised today. By accident, the Safety Board discovered two weeks ago that the insects were damaging No. 8 engine house. Mr. Taylor was sent to kill the pests, and he met with so much success that the commissioners today requested him to inspect all fire houses. Firemen in all sections of the city have been reporting termite trouble.
