The butter factory was small, but there was room enough for all the happy li'.tle Tinies, and they promptly rushed inside. The cattail followed them and said, “Walk to those tables, straight ahead.” “Hey, just where are the buttercups?” wee Duncy loudly cried. “Why, there is not a flower in sight. Gee, I hope this turns out all right.” The cattail smiled and answered, “You are too impatient, son. “I have to call them forth, you see. Then they’ll get busy as can be. Just standing here and watching them will be a lot of fun. “I’ll let them take turns showing you the very clever thing they do. Miss Betty Buttercup will be the first one to appear. “She’s timid, so don’t frighten her, if you want something to occur.” Then Goldy loudly shouted, “Why, she already is here.”

The little flower walked right out; then was a wee bit scared, no doubt, at seeing all the Tinies Mister Cattail said “Come, come! “These Tinies gathered all around won’t harm you. You are safe and sound. I’ve told them you make butter, and I want you to make some.” “Well, howdy do!” Miss Betty said. “Here’s where I use my pretty head.” She jumped atop the table, to the Tinymites’ delight. The cattail set two dishes out, and then heard little Duncy shout, “Oh, they will hold a lot of butter. This should be a sight!” In just a moment every one was thrilled at what was being done. Miss Betty tipped her head a bit, and out the butter rolled. “This is ss easy as can be, ’cause I’m a buttercup,” said she. “How beautiful the color,” Windy shouted. “Just like gold!”

THE TARZAN TWINS

As the mighty Gudah tore the tree from the loose soil, it seemed that the creaking and ripping of wood was indeed the death-knell of Tarzan of the Apes. In this harrowing moment, Tarzan, with no thought of evoking aid, instinctively emitted the piercing ape-cry.

As the tree fell, Tarzan leaped cnce more to the back of the mad elephant, seeking there a brief reprieve from the sentence of death. As before, the beast started to rear upright to dislodge the manthing, but fierce, wild cries from the jungle brought him to a sudden halt.

Gudah whirled in the direction of tht sound. But Tarzan had already recognized those- fierce battle cries, and he was prepared for the sight that greeted his eyes—a band of twenty great apes emerging from the jungle and racing speedily across the Vale of Death.

Tarzan’s heart was warmed by this response of his foster-brothers to his distress call, but he knew they would die in vain if they attempted to aid him. So now he cried out to them: “Save yourselves! Go back! This beast will kill you—as he is about to kill me!”
