FORMER POLICE OFFICER DIES; | FUNERAL FRIDAY Harry Bridwell Is to Be Buried in Crown Hill. Funeral services for Harry Bridwell, former detective sergeant on the Indianapolis police force and a veteran of the Spanish-Amcrican War, are to be held at 1:20 Friday afternoon in Shirley Brothers, Chapel, 946 N. Illinois-st. Burial i is to be in Crown Hill. Mr. Bridwell died yesterday at his home, 232 Eastern-av. He was 56. Born in Wilmington in 1879, he was a second lieutenant in the One hundred thirty-ninth machine gun battalion in the war with Spain. For 19 years he served in the police department, resigning to be-, come employment manager for | Stutz Motor Cos. following the World ; War. He later returned to the de- j partment, for a short time, but was forced to retire because of ill health. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Helen Bridwell: two daughters, Mrs. Sarah J. Reasner and Mrs. Nell Whittle: three sons. Harry Bridwell Jr., and Jack and Howard Bridwell; a sister, Mrs. Jessie Morck; a brother. William S. Bridwell and three grandchildren, all of Indianapolis. Former Resident Dies The body of Herbert L. Whitehead, a. former resident of Indianapolis who died yesterday at his home in Monrovia, Cal., is to be returned here for burial in Crown Hill. He was 73. Born in Indianapolis, Mr. Whitehead had lived in this city more j than 50 years. He was a member j of the First Congregational Church, the Masonic Blue Lodge and the Knights Templar. Survivors are two sons, Lawrence Whitehead, of San Antonio, Tex., and Stuart Whitehead, of Monrovia, Cal., and three daughters, Mrs. John L. Goldthwaite, of Indianapolis. and Mrs. Marion Southgate and Miss Jean 'Whitehead, of Mon- ' rovia, and three grandchildren. Patrick A. Roach Dies Last rites for Patrick A. Roach, who died yesterday in St. Vincent’s Hospital, are to be held tomorrow at 8:30 in the home, 33 E. 12th-st, and at 9 in SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral. Burial is to be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mr. Roach, who was 63, had been a resident of Indianapolis 25 years, and was a member of the cathedral. He was employed by the Hook Drug Cos. as a pharmacist 20 years. Survivors are the widow; a son, the Rev. Anthony Roach, Indianapolis; three daughters, Miss Agnes Roach and Mrs. Mary Margaret Killila of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Katharine Fletcher. 7000 WILL GET WORK ON STATE ROAD PROJECTS Manion Gives Assurance of Employment in WFBM Radio Talk. Indiana today was assured that 7000 more of its unemployed, nowon relief, are to be put to work soon on 72 new road projects, sponsored by state and Federal governments. This assurance of an intensified re-employment program, represented by street and highway construction and grade crossing elimination, was given by Clarence Manion, state Federal Works Administrator, in an address over WFBM last night. Fifty-one of the 123 highway projects allotted Indiana are under way, Mr. Manion revealed, and those scheduled for launching during the spring and summer are to consummate a $19,375,000 program for 1936. Marion County, the speaker said, is to be benefited by an additional expenditure of $476,000. A total of $1,631,500 has been spent on road work during the last two years.
