‘HOOSIER TWINS’ RESUME BASKET RACE
I. U. Defends Big Ten Post at Evanston Meets Northwestern Squad Tomorrow; lowa Plays Boilermakers. Timm Special BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Feb. 28. Indiana University’s basketball team, sharing the Big Ten lead with Purdue, will pit its strength for the second time this season against a rejuvenated Northwestern combination tomorrow at Evanston. Ten players and Coach Everett Dean were to leave here this afternoon for Chicago. The squad includes: Co-Capt. Stout, Gunning, Etnire and Silberstein, forwards; Fechtman and Hosier, centers, and Co-Capt. Walker, Huffman, Platt and Scott, guards. Indiana, rested after a week of light work, is expected to be at full strength for the game. The squad is determined to maintain its top position in the title cha.se, remembering that Northwestern, by scoring an upset 40-22 victory at the t:lose of last season, kept the Hookers from a share in the championship. Purdue’s hopes of figuring in the Big Ten title distribution for the third successive year will be at stake her. - ! tomorrow night as the Boilermakers tackle lowa’s dangerous quintet in a return battle that will mark the last home appearance of the season for the Lambertcoached five. Sharing the leadership in the Conference chase with Indiana, the Boilermakers are in a position where a victory will be essential to the retention of champ onship aspirations, particularly :i view of the return battle game with Michigan at Ann Arbor a week from tomorrow that will bring the season tc a close. It took a last-second shot by Pat Malaska in the original encounter at lowa City to give Purdue a thrilling 39-38 victory, and the return engagement is expected to provide an equally spectacular contest. Lee in Headline Fistic Go Tonight Bout With Thompson Tops Card at Armory. Paul (Tennessee) Lee, Hoosier state featherweight champion, and Murl Thompson, St. Louis scrapper, are to clash in the ten-round windup of the Hercules A. C. boxing program at the Armory tonight. Both fighters have been following rigorous training campaigns and are in good shape. Jimmy Shannon, local lightweight, is to open the show in a six-round bout against Frankie Lockwood, Portland slugger, who defeated him in a battle at Terre Haute Monday night. Johnny Netterman of Louisville and Tommy Merritt of Union City, who tangled here last week, have been rematched for eight rounds at 140 pounds. Packy Gardner, North Side heavyweight. will oppose Russ Roland of Memphis in the other eight-frame fight. The 'program will start at 8:30. SILENT HOOSIER CAGE TEAM CLOSES SEASON The Silent Hoosiers basketball team is to complete its regular season schedule tonight at Westfield. The Hoosiers are slated to defend their 1935 Central States Deaf School championship March 13 and 14 at Flint. Mich.

Hollyrood was quoted at 3 to 1 to place and 3 to 2 to show. Hens Bow to City Quintet Third Time The Kautsky A. C. harwood squad, which concludes its Midwest Conference schedule Sunday at the Armory against U. S. Tires, today claims a distinction that is matched by no other team in the country this year. By defeating the New York Renaissance, 44 to 41, at Shelbyville last night, the local squad of excollegians became the only team to hang up three defeats in one season on the barnstorming Rens who have engaged in 81 battles this year. The game with the Tiremen Sunday will be the second for the city pro title. Kautskys annexed the first encounter, 36 to 32. The team clinched a berth in the loop playoff series. Meet in Final Block for Billiard Crown The state three-cushion championship will be decided tonight at Harry Cooler’s parlor when Harry Rubens and Larry Shapiro meet Li the final block of the 150-point match. Rubens holds a 100-to-92 lead. He won Tuesday’s match, 53 to 42. after Shapiro had posted a 50-to-47 vetory in the initial block.
