CITY BALKS AT PAYING TAX FOR GAS MAIN FIRM March 15 on U. S. Levy Outside of Agreement. Directors Say. The Indianapolis Gas Cos. was advised today by City Utility District directors that the city will not pay the firm's Federal income tax installment March 15.‘ They informed the company, which owns 60 per cent of the local gas mains and one plant, that March 15 falls outside the standstill agreement. When the city took over facilities of the Citizens Gas Cos. Sept. 9, it agreed to pay a sum equal in amount to the Indianapolis Gas Co.'s taxes, interest and stock dividends until March 9. The directors also indicated that unless the Indianapolis Gas Cos. reached terms on the rental or purchase of its facilities by M-irch 9, the city would not pay interest on the firm's bond issue due in April. Directors of the utility district and the Indianapolis Gas Cos. have discussed i cash price for the facilities, but have not reached an agreement, it was said.
