POCKET PICKING PICKING UP FOR I DIPS, IS CLAIM Shift That Wallet to Some Other Hideout Police Warn. BY SAM TYNDALL Where do you carry your wallet? If It is the left rear pocket, you had better change It right now to the right. That’s a tip from Indianapolis police, for pickpocketing is on the pickup. Pocket picking is, in a sense, one of the lost arts, because the talent and igenuity of latter days is no more. But the practitioners, if not total thefts, have increased. While the art, formerly required stud or stickpin, snatch a watch from an inside vest pocket—the present generation Is content with sneaking a wallet from the left hip pocket, police have found. They have a logical explanation for the increase. They sav a few years ago expert dips were ‘big shot" and jumped into the bootlegging and auto theft rackets. Here Are Some Good Tips Although 150,000 persons flushed with holiday money attended last year's Speedway races, there was only one wallet reported missing and police think it was lost. Police from other cities cooperated with the pickpocket squad here in rounding up all known pickpockets and keeping them behind bars until the visitors had gone. Police have the following suggestions for the prospective victim: Be alert in a crowd. Watch out for the jostler; he may not be as awkward as he acts. Be suspicious of the stranger who follows you to and from a bank. Change the wallet to the right hip pocket. Purse Stolen From Home A thief entered the home of Mrs. Josephine Kimberling, 115 E. 13th- ! at, and stole her purse containing i $75, she told police today.

Today is the ninety-first anniversary of the birth of Capt. Thomas E. Halls, (above) who formerly was chief of the Indiana branch of the United States Secret Service. He lives in retirement at 2825 Ruckle-st. Today he said ho might be feeling a little better except for that Jesse James bullet that w r ent through him one time when he was hunting the ga.g in Kansas and was ambushed. The captain was a detective for more than 50 years. Once he set up as a physician in Chicago to catch a counterfeit gang. He got an emergency maternity case, had to admit he wasn’t a physician and narrowly missed being prosecuted.
