LABOR ARBITER IS EXPECTED IN BLOOMINGTON U. S. Official to Help Settle Dispute at Nurr* Mirror Plant. Bn Vnltr/l pres* BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Feb. 14. A Labor Department representative from Washington was expected to arrive here today to aid In settling a labor dispute at the J. M. Nurre mirror plant. Union leaders requested government assistance In the arbitration after a conference yesterday with company officials and Mayor Arthur Berndt failed to produce a settlement. Fifty workers went on strike Monday in protest against installation of anew silvering machine which they claimed caused dismissal of seven employes. Picket Lines Established When more than a score of other workers refused to Join the walkout picket lines were established. Several employes drove through the lines in automobiles. Three pickets were arrested, and were to be arraigned in City-Court today, according to Police Chief Robert Eller. Maj. Ralph Paddock acted as “observer” for Adjt. Gen. Elmer F. Straub of the Indiana National Guard. ‘Y’ COURSE IS ARRANGED Typing, Shorthand Class to Start Tonight for Beginners. A typing and shorthand class for beginners is to open tonight at the Y. M. C. A. and is to meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights for 20 weeks. J. M. Suipe, Shortridge High School faculty member, is to be the instructor. Enrollment in the course is to be limited.
