MURDER TRIAL OPENS MONDAY Pair Charged With Slaying Detective to Be Tried at Greenfield'. Paul Pierce and Donald Joseph, escaped convicts charged with the murder of Detective Sergt. Orville Quinnette, are to go on trial Monday in Hancock Circuit Court, Greenfield. Quinnette died in City Hospital of five bullet wounds received in a gun battle in a North Side apartment Dec. 7. He and his partner, Detective Sergt. Russell Cb. Lham, had been sent to the apart;.-ent on the report that two men w 10 were hiding there were wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of a police officer in Anderson. The convicts scuffled with the detectives and Chatham received a wound in the foot, Quinnette in the abdomen and arms and Pierce in the shoulder. The gunmen were captured several days later at the farm home of Sylva Headlee, a paroled convict living near Milroy. Pierce was identified by Quinnette as he lay on his hospital bed as the man who had shot him. He also was identified by Chatham. He later made a confession, police say. Arraigned in Criminal Court for first degree murder, the men were granted a change of venue. Judge Frank P, Baker designated Greenfield for the trial. FA IRSEXCA N T T "‘TAKE IT’ Lighter Apparel Makes Them Easy Prey to Cold, Is Warning. Women are suffering more today than men from frostbite, Dr. R. E. Tanner told the newly organized Indianapolis Podiatry Society last night. Due to wearing lighter apparel than the men they are more exposed to the rigors of cold, he said. Woolen hosiery, regular massaging and alternate hot and cold foot baths twice daily were advocated. Brown, Joan Brown, Ebert Chatham.
