WPA ADDS 800 INDIANA WOMEN TO WORK ROLL Three-Fourths of Them Are Employed in Hoosier Sewing Projects. Approximately 800 additional women have hern employed on Works Progress Administration projects during the last, month, it was announced today in a report made by the state director of women's work for the Works Progress Administration. Three-fourths of this number are employed in sewing rooms. There now are 6424 women assigned to work, and 449 projects in operation. Sewing projects lead the list, there being 182 scattered over the state. With 4892 women being given regular employment in them, these sewing rooms not only serve as a means of providing clothhig for needy persons, but also do much toward rehabilitating the women. Every day there is an instruction period. Two days a week the women are taught sewing, and are required to keep notebooks wuth samples of all ordinary sewing operations, so that, their progress will be discernible. One day’s instruction is devoted to the study of foods, another to household management, another to health, with emphasis on child care. The talks are given by supervisors and teachers on the project, men in the works programs safety division, and public health nurses, physicians and other authorities. Recreation projects employ 308 women, and library projects, calling for the cleaning and repair of thousands of valuable books, employ 284 Clerical projects, involving the rehabilitation of old records, employ 279. There are 246 women engaged in educational wwk, and 188 in building improvement. Miscellaneous, projects employ 227 women.

NEW ELECTRIC SCHEDULE IS PUT JIN FILE Rates Will Save Consumers in Fort Wayne Area $40,000 a Year. New commercial and residential electric schedules affecting several thousand patrons in the Fort Wayne area, were filed today with the Public Service Commission by the Indiana Service Corp. Company officials estimated the new schedules would result in $40,000 annual savings to the customers. Commercial and small power users are to be affected by one schedule, applying only to Fort Wayne. Commercial - residential schedules are to affect patrons in rural and suburban areas. Fort Wayne residential rates were reduced approximately $19,000 annually several months ago by the City Light and Power Cos. W. Marshall Dale, vice president and general manager of the Indiana Service Corp, said the voluntary reduction was offered as a means of encouraging greater use of commercial and small-power schedules. Schedules Announced The company proposed the following commercial - small power schedule: First 359 kilowatts per month, 3 cents: next 350 kwh, 2 cents; next 1300. 1.8 cents; next 3,000 kwh, 1.6 cents, and all over 5000 kwh, 1.2 cents.
