PLEA OF ‘FADIN' FAILS; 4 BOYS DIE IN CHAIR
Youths Schooled in Crime by Ex-Politician Pay for Fatal Holdup. By United Press SING SING PRISON, OSSINING, N. Y., Jan. 10—Four students in the crime college of a white-haired, kindly old man received diplomas magnum cum laude posthumously today. In the big black book of Sing Sing this notation was entered after their names: "Electrocuted.” "Prof.” Nelson Clark, once a progressive candidate for Governor of Massachusetts, tried to prevent their graduation. He wrote Gov. Herbert H. Lehman from his cell that he had led them astray, that he had pushed them along criminal careers that ended in the murder of a poiceman, and that therefore death was too severe a penalty. Lehman was deaf to the plea, as well as to others, and the youths went to the chair last night. The executed men were Ray Orley, 21; Newman Raymond, 21; Thomas Gih.ride, 20, and Americo Angelini, 20. They murdered Patrolman James Killion in New Yrrk City. Clark provided the pistol for the holdup and did the preliminary planning. He is 60 years old and is serving 15 years for receiving stolen property. Neal Bowman Killed By United Press EDDYVILLE, Ky., Jan. 10.—His lips compressed, Neal Bowman, 33, met death in the electric chair early today with the same show of bravado that marked his career of crime in Ohio and Kentucky.
