COMMISSIONERS RENAME LINDER COUNTY LAWYER Ruse Refuses to Quit Post as Head of Infirmary. John Linder today resumes his duties as county attorney, having been reappointed yesterday by the Oxtnty Commissioners, immediately after Clarence I. Wheatley was sv.orn to office as the new Board number. Other reappointments are Harry Barret as superintendent, of the Hospital of the Incurable Insane, Julietta and Anna E. Pickard as superintendent, of the Juvenile Detention Ho.h!. Sheldon 'ey, Andrew J. Hoover, William McGill and Benjamin Osborne, Negro, received appointments as old-age pension investigators. Frri.je Replaces Pierson Fred Freije, 3704' i E. Michiganfit, became the bailiff of the Commissioners Court, replacing Vcrl Pierson, Beech Grove, who was j oustpd because of his activities in Beech Grove elections. Dr. A. O. Ruse, superintendent of the Marion County Infirmary, continues in office, having refused to relinquish his post. Attempts have been made to oust him because he refuses to live at the institution. James Twineham. 1145 N. King-av, was to have been appointed to the post. Dr. Ruse has served two years of a four-year term and while the ! commissioners have expressed ap- | prova! of his administration they I also said that they will attempt to have more vegetables grown at the farm. SEEKS TO BAR POLLS FROM NATION'S MAILS Kcp. W. M. Pierce to Ask Farley’s Approval of Bill. Bn United Press WASHINGTON. Jan. 2. Rep, Walter M. Pierce (D„ Ore.) said today he would seek Postmaster General James A. Farley’s approval of a bill to bar straw ballots on national political questions from the mails. Rep. Pierce introduced such a bill at the last session of Congress, The Post office Department opposed it on the grounds that it would lose a valuable source of first class revenue. "With the Literary Digest poll showing a trend against the New Deal, I feel that maybe Jim has changed his mind on my bill." Mr. Fierce said. "He promised to see me :.ext wek. If he says it is O. K. I am confident that we cun get it through the committee." BEECH GROVE MAYOR PICKS TWO OFFICERS Names Police, Fire Chiefs; Cosncii 1 Also Takes Over Duties. Appointive officials of the new city of Beech Grove have been announced by Charles Adams, the town's new mayor, who was sworn into office yesterday by Louis E. Marine, new city attorney. Charles Lough is police chief. Other appointees are H. A. Terrell, fire chief; Dr. J. C. Rhea, Leslie Garrison and Charles Bradv, members of the Board of Health, and Mrs. Effie Gayle, secretary of the board. Beech Grove's first council Ls comprised of Chester Smith. Herman Kumpart, Noble Stogdill, Arthur Hendricks and John E. Boyland. William A. Gearhart is clerictreasurer. Mrs. Margaret Hogan Dead Mrs. Margaret Hogan. 1311 Batcsst, died at her home today. She had been ill for several days. Dr. E. R. Wilson, deputy coroner, said death was dire to natural causes. She was 67.
