I. U, AND PURDUE RANK HIGH IN ENROLLMENTS First Has Fourth Largest Extension Registration, Survey Shows. Timr, Rprciol BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Dec. 23 Indiana University is the thirteenth largest in America, according to a survey published in the current issue , of School and Society, educational Journal. Enrollment and teaching figures i for the 570 leading universities and colleges in the country are included in the survey, prepared by Dr. Raymond Walters, University of Cin- j Hatl president. On t. basis of extension enroll- ! ment, Indiana ranks fourth in the j riat.on, exceeded only by Wisconsin, I California and Columbia Universities. In full-time resident students, the Hoosier school is twenty-ninth. I In residence I U. has 6422 stu- i t|ents, including those of the 1935 j summer session and those on the campus Nov. 1. Its extension enrpllment Is 5452. Leading all of 47 technological schools, Purdue is credited with 4982 students for the same period. California Heads List Largest of all universities is California with an enrolment of 35,447 Os this number. 73.045 are on the ; campus and 12.402 in extension courses, Wisconsin, second largest, has a total enrollment of 31,984 and Columbia, 30,097. Among 16 principal institutions of : higher learning in the state, the j comparative enrollment of full time i students and teachers is as follows: Indiana, 5008 and 328; Purdue, 4433 and 346; Notre Dame. 2743 and 177; Indiana State, 1221 and 99; De Pauw, 1245 and 80; Butler. 1124 and 80; Ball State. 1073 and 66; Manchester, 635 and 42; Valparaiso, 412 and 42; Earlham. 392 and 40; Wabash, 378 and 28; St. Mary's, 286 and 50; Evansville, 279 and 29; Franklin, 278 and 27; St. Mary-of-the-Woods, 250 and 36; Rose Poly, 162 and 26.
